Couldn't be happier about the win...I was on a fishing trip over the weekend so I missed the excitement. I'd have to ask this though: Will Cov Cath remain reliant on screens? The screen play is a great tool if your opponent continues to bite on it or if you use it somewhat sparingly, but what happens if the defense covers it correctly? Teams like Highlands and St. X seem to show an impressive amount of discipline in shutting down the option and screen plays year to year. What will that do to Cov Cath's passing game?

Do you honestly think that these coaches are stupid enough to continue to call screens if they are being defended? I heard a criticism that we threw too many screens on Saturday night. Anyone that questions the play calling Saturday knows nothing about football and needs to find a new hobby. Take what they give you.

I believe the object of the game is to move the ball down the field and score.

I do not care how it is done, even if you stand on your head and do a funny dance.

I wasn't implying that the coaches were stupid by any stretch. I realize that scoring a touchdown is scoring a touchdown, and I'm a firm believer that if it works once, then try it a second time, and if it works a second time, try a third... I'm just wondering more, I suppose, if they're (at least at this point) a bit of a one-dimensional offense. You said yourself that there were people alleging "too many screens", and as I said, I wasn't at the game. I guess I'd have to ask, were they getting shut down at all elsewhere on the passing game and the screen was all that worked consistently, or was it a matter of them just relying on the screen play the whole time?

The screen was working because their downfield passing game was also working. Unless there is at least a threat of a downfield game, screens won't work at any level. A few of the screens went for huge yards as a result of very good downfield blocking and the receivers following those blocks. I think these were also working because quite frankly, Lex Cath was a little young on defense with alot of soph and Jrs playing. Also, their top lb (Letton) went out with an injury which probably opened this up more. I would say overall good play calling by the Cov Cath staff to notice the trend, and good execution on the field. I can assure you they will not become one dimensional and you will see the bread and butter play change with each game and opponent.
