About what I figured. Ashland had another TD erased by penalty.

Just got back from the game. Terrific 1st quarter. Neck and neck. Then the wheels came off for the Rams. Several dropped balls by the Rams didn't help their cause. Seems like some defensive adjustments were made by the Tomcat staff and they put this one out of reach. Congratulations to both squads on a solid effort and to Ashland for the victory. And a special thanks to one of my favorite Tomcat parents for an outstanding parking spot.:thumb:

You summed it up nicely. The dropped balls stopped their offense early. Ashland's defense stopped it after that. As much of a problem for Raceland, though, was the fact that Ashland's offense starting slicing through Raceland's defense like a hot knife through butter from the 1st quarter on. Ashland is good. The good news for Raceland? They won't see any more teams like this.

Speed kills!! And the CATS had way to much for my RAMS. Great 1st qt. Then the Tomcats speed took over. Not a bad effort though!

Good effort from the Rams (as expected). You'll win a lot of games this season.

 

Ashland got on track in the second quarter and were just too much for the Rams to handle the rest of the way. Coach Hart's record improves to 3-3 against the Rams with this win.

I still must ask why a school with as good of a soccer program as Ashland has doesn't have a kicker? They still squib kickoffs giving the other team the ball in good field position and never even attempt an extra point or field goal. Granted, they probably won't need a kicker in most of their regular season games, but I have to think they could end up needing one at some point when they face competition that has the speed to slow down their spread offense. In fact, wasn't a field goal needed the last time they beat Johnson Central in 2005?

Farley look scared and the receivers did not help either with the drop balls. Like I have said the receivers make the quarterback look great or awful. This team is going to rely on the short pass and a good team will hurt them every time.

Looks like Ashland made the most mistakes. It was good to see some talented sophomores shine in this game. I think Watts and Massey will be exciting to watch.

I think Massey could be Ashland's all-time leading something (runner/receiver/returner - wherever they put him) if they'd go ahead and make him the feature of the offense. Ashland has some decent players at the skill positions, but he stands out as being a serious threat to score any time he touches the ball. He's really something special.

In the first qtr we made some really good open field tackles. The last three qtrs are feet seemed to stick to the grass! We were falling over trying to make a cut back tackle. I noticed coach Maynard would call the perfect defense and he told them where the ball was going. And they still left us in the dust. Some heavy feet out there after the first qtr. Congrats to the Tomcats on the win. :notworthy:
