Crittenden County at Mayfield predictions

I could put together a tougher schedule against better teams he has dropped in the past decade such as Murray, Trigg Co., and Heath. If I couldn't get them, I would definatly play Madisonville, Hopkins Central, or Graves County. That would better prepare them for Mayfield than Ballard Memorial, Fulton County or Calloway County.

There are only two games on Crittenden's schedule this year that I would call into question ... Calloway County and Logan County. Both are 3A schools, but there was no reason to think that either would be very good or very competitive with the Rockets.

I don't question the presence of Caldwell County, Webster County and Union County on the schedule ... those are neighboring counties and good local rivals. It just happens that Webster and Union are in down cycles.

I've always felt that Trigg County would be a nice addition to the schedule. The other one could be one of the others Fletch mentioned.

Put Lone Oak on the schedule. They are an up and coming team and would be a good challenge for Crittenden instead of a token 'W' that will not help them down the road.

Actually, it's been said that Crittenden County has expressed an interest in playing in the bowl game that is co-hosted by Mayfield and Marshall County in future years ... I'm sure the Alliance Bowl organizers would match the Rockets up with a quality opponent.

Are they wanting to take Graves County's opponent?

I agree about the local rivals. You have to put together a schedule that has a good balance of competitiveness and a gate. Ballard Memorial and Fulton County in the past few years have neither. Calloway didn't have that this year.

I've heard Trigg Co. brings hundreds to their road games. So does Murray.

I don't think you can say Crittenden has dodged quality opponents though, just off the top of my head in 99 they played Murray and beat them when the Tigers were pre-season#5 in class A. The next year Crittenden played both them and Trigg Co., the year Trigg went 10-0, I'm not sure if Trigg was still 1A though,as far then to now, not sure, haven't been around Marion that much, but as far 2000 and previous years, there was no problem with the schedule.

Well, all I can say is that this sounds like Crittendens year to compete with Mayfield, aren't they graduating a lot of the key players this year? The whole game could come down to Mayfield's experience with much larger and faster teams this year. Man though, all the hype about this game is really making it exciting, and it makes it tough when you are a team like Mayfield, basically paints a target on ya and everybody is out to knock you down. I am just hoping our boys don't get a big head about things and just come out and take care of business, :thumb:

A lot of people think exactly that.

Coincidence or not, Murray disappeared from the schedule after they beat the Rockets 37-0 in 2000. Coincidence or not, Trigg went off the schedule when they went to 2A, just as they were getting their program going again. Coincidence or not, Heath went off the schedule when they started to improve. Coincidence or not, Union County didn't show up on the schedule until they started to slide.

I don't know that Crittenden has deliberately "dodged quality opponents," but the knock on them has been is that they don't go out of their way to schedule quality opponents when they know they're going to be good.

That's debatable. I remember a year in there (1997, maybe) when the Rockets went 10-2 and didn't beat anyone with a winning record.

See you all at the game tommorrow night....Should be a good one! Have a safe trip Critt fans! Hope Mayfield comes to play!!!

Actually the year was 96 when the Rockets went 10-2 and hadn't beat a team w/ a winning Record, and the previous year the Rockets went 4-7, then 2-8 before that and didnt have a winning record since 91 which they went 6-5 in Starnes first year, then you have to look all the way back to 88 for a winning record. That may be the reason for the weak schedule in 96. Crittenden only became a winning team in 96 with a team loaded with Freshman and SR's, thats why in 97 the Rockets fell off to 6-4, and since then have a good team usually every other year. So next year the Rockets will be lucky to go 5-5, if we are going to beat the Big Red Machine, this is the year.

Personally, I think Crittenden's got a pretty solid program and in the last few years probably deserved a little more state wide recognition, but, at the same time, when people see the schedule, they're hesitant to give em that credit..I can't really blame them, I suppose, especially when in most years, they get to Mayfield and get beat..

I, too, understand the neighboring Co rival games with Caldwell, Union and Webster and in some years, any of the 3 are pretty good, but, to me a Trigg, Hopkins Cen., Ft Campbell or maybe even an Indiana 1a-2a team like S.Spencer or Mater Dei would really help them, win or lose...

My question would be, if crittenden did try and up the competition level, who would actually schedule them, as alot of teams are pretty locked in on there schedules too.

They already play Hopkins Central every year in a scrimage and that dates back for over 10 years. I really think it would be hard to change up the schedule to much.
