Crittenden County at Mayfield predictions

Featured Replies

They already play Hopkins Central every year in a scrimage and that dates back for over 10 years. I really think it would be hard to change up the schedule to much.

I don't count scrimmages..they're not played anythink like a real game type situation and alot of younger kids get to play so coaches can see what they can do....Do you think if the Rockets tried to schedule a Hoptown, Tilghman, Oboro Catholic or Trigg that these teams would play them?? I doubt they would, so, in Crittendens defense, I'm not sure who would be a real good candidate to fill the slot, do you?

Heres my thought:

Tilghman - 5 district games, Graves and Mayfield and usually another pretty good out of state team and a good 4a team, this doesn;t leave them much room

Hop'town - 5 district games, Mayfield, Christian, Male, and a good out of state team..Also not alot of room.

Oboro Cath - Only 4 non dist games available and 3 locked in with the other 3 Oboro schools, again, not alot of room..

You see my point...Not only that, but, you also have to find teams that can match up with your available weeks and thats not always easy either..

Really I don't see who they would play, and as far as Heath goes, they were taken off the schedule after a few good beatings to them and they never really presented much of a challenge anyway. Trigg, they wanted to keep the game late in the season if I'm not mistaken but Crittenden likes to leave all the district games for last. I would love to see Crittenden pick up 1 quality opponent early in the year, but in this area it's slim pickens as far as teams available or willing to play and the district games are on the other side of the moon, so closer teams make more sense than playing a team over in the 2nd region or something. I'd like to see a better team on the schedule, just not sure who, but hopefully something will materialize w/ that bowl game talk.

2007 Schedule

Week #1 - vs. Caldwell County (border rival)

Week #2 - at Hopkins Central (enough of the silly 'we have to scrimmage them' talk. Make the game count)

Week #3 - at Union County (another 3A school, but not a world-beater)

Week #4 - vs. Lone Oak (an up-and-coming team that can be replaced in two years)

Week #5 - vs. Webster County (another border rival)

Week #6 - at Metcalfe County

Week #7 - vs. McLean County

Week #8 - vs. Caverna

Week #9 - at Hancock County

Week #10 - at Russellville

Five home. Five road. Replace Hopkins Central and Lone Oak with Trigg County and Murray in 2009 and replace them and Union County with three more in 2011.

Yeah, I haven't really thought about Murray..When Fisher was there, they were the worlds worse about scheduling anyone who might give em a challenge, but, it appears there new coach is trying to improve the program and get some better teams to play. They may be a real good fit, plus, i really look for them to improve in the next couple of years

Graves Co may also be a good, quality opponent..I know they've played Ballard Mem the last couple of years and played Fulton co a few years ago..

Heath and Crittenden would have been a good matchup over the last three years. Unfortunately, the Pirates don't always seem eager to beef up their schedule, either.

Trigg, they wanted to keep the game late in the season if I'm not mistaken but Crittenden likes to leave all the district games for last.
On 9/2/05, Trigg played Hopkins Central and Crittenden played Logan County. Both of those games were new to their schedules this year. I would have much rather seen a Crittenden-Trigg matchup, with the understanding that next year's meeting probably wouldn't be much of a game. But if Crittenden is serious about challenging Mayfield for the regional title, Trigg is an opponent that would have prepared them for it.

The bowl game would help. And again, if you're serious about making a postseason run, what is the harm of making a road trip every other year?

Murray's non-district schedule certainly was tougher than usual this year. Dyersburg finished at 10-1 after being upset in the first round if the playoffs and Marshall County finished 9-2. Ohio County wasn't bad. Hopkins Central and Lone Oak were decent games ... Lone Oak will be as long as Jack Haskins is there. Calloway County is a must-play game.

Crittenden and Murray would be a nice matchup, but I would understand if they didn't want to because of the possibility they would meet in the playoffs.

Graves hasn't played Fulton County in years. They did play three Class A teams this year in Mayfield, Ballard and Hancock County.

The Eagles won't play Ballard in the bowl game next year. I think they will play Heath ... I wish they would find a bigger school, possibly one from Tennessee.

Good point about Heath...Lone Oak traveled all the way to Lex to play Dunbar this year, so,they be willing and to me, this would be a good test for both teams.

I agree, but, Trigg seems to be really trying to load there schedule with bigger teams like BGreen and have talked about trying to play Hoptown, so it's possible they would rather avoid crittenden, then the other way around.

I think 00rocket is saying that several of there district games are already so far away, it would be better to have a good, quality opponent near by, at least for gate purposes and for the fans

I don't know that Trigg would have played Crittenden, but they took the Franklin-Simpson bowl game (Bowling Green) because they're having trouble finding anyone that will play them. Several traditional rivals (Russellville, Murray and Todd Central) have dropped the Wildcats in recent years.

Trigg County, Murray and Heath are no farther away than Calloway County and Logan County.

The door swings both ways so it may be possible for these teams not really wanting to schedule them either

I can see why Murray wouldn't, for reasons already stated. Heath doesn't seem to want to upgrade very much, either. But given that Trigg was willing to play Bowling Green this year and Franklin-Simpson next year, something tells me they're not ducking Crittenden.

I didn't mean ducking, some schools may just not see the Rockets as a challenge.

That's what I meant, too...Trigg simply may be trying to upgrade with bigger schools vs a 1a school..
