Talked to someone yesterday and they said it was the best movie they have seen since Dark Knight.

 

Funny that you mention the Dark Knight. Didn't Christopher Nolan, who did this movie, also do Batman Begins and the Dark Knight?

The plot/storyline is one of the best concepts I've seen in a movie in a long time. Really tough to grasp what's going on at first, but once you wrap your head around it, it's phenomenal.

 

I couldn't agree more with this statement as well. I am also like most of you and hope that they don't try and do a sequel...leave it the way it is. I feel like very few movies live up to the hype that all my friends build up after they've seen it a week or two before me. This one totally did.

Please don't compare this to The Dark Knight. Inception>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>than TDK and it's not even close. I liked TDK as much as the next person, but this is BY FAR the movie of the year and the way movies, and especially summer blockbusters, should be. There has been wayyyyyy better movies since TDK and as a whole, it was vastly overrated(but still a good movie).

 

As far as the ending, I'm on the side who believes it's a dream. His kids are in the EXACT same clothes as they are in all his dreams, the same age, and in the same position as when he left. What are the chances??? I think he started dreaming when he was talking to Eames in the bar and had to jump over the railing. I have only seen the movie once, but I am almost positive that he doesn't spin his top the rest of the movie w/o it either being interrupted or messing up.(ex. when he was in the bathroom and someone walked in when he was trying to spin it)

 

But the whole point of the movie isn't "Was he dreaming?". The point was that he finally was happy and where he wanted to be(at home with his kids) and it didn't matter if he was dreaming or not. That's why he walked away from the top at the end...it didn't matter what happened.

 

Everyone is giving Leo props, and rightfully show because he was amazing, but you are also overlooking how well everyone else's performance was. There wasn't one weak spot in the movie. Ellen Page played her part perfectly, along with Joseph Gordon-Levett. Marion Cotillard(Mal) gave the best performance IMO. She was very eery and one could almost feel her presence and she didn't have to say any words to be effective. I was incredibly creeped out when they were riding up the elevator and she was giving them the death stare. All of her scenes were amazing.

 

Got a little long-winded but oh well. They said it took Nolan 10 years to finish the script because there was so many plot holes he had to correct, and now I can see why.

Completely different types of actors is why.

 

Leo is great, but Day-Lewis is a chameleon. He rarely does movies because of the in-depth preparation, research, and transformation he does for each role.

 

I love Leo's movies, but I'll take quality over quantity.

 

I could definitely see that. Day-Lewis is always amazing in every role he's in and he becomes his characters. I just think Leo has great quality to go along with his quantity of movies done. :thumb:

So what's everyone's take on it. Who believes it was all a dream, or was it real?

How did you come up with that? Not saying it couldn't be but I don't see the connection from where he could have transitioned to that stage during the movie. If the ending was a dream wouldn't he have awaken somewhere besides the plane? If up to the point of the plane was real then it couldn't have ended as a dream because once you enter the dream you are somewhere in a random area that you don't remember getting too, they boarded the plane and proceeded from there.

Sorry if I confused you...but I think your question is the confusing part.

 

To me it was all real because they entered someone else's dream. It all happened and then they came back to reality on the plane, right? But it still really happened to everyone, except for the really rich guy who was taking over the company.

 

And then I think the very last scene, Leonardo DiCaprio's character was in his own dream when he saw his kids...meaning it wasn't real to him, which is why the top (in my mind) was spinning and was going to contnue to do so.

Well here is the explanation to the ending and the answer to whether or not it was reality or still a dream.
