MidAmerica National Challenge

Featured Replies

The Nky Real Deal won the 16U MidAmerica National Challenge tournament at Midamerica Sports Center in Louisville this weekend by a score of 64 to 53. They beat teams from Illinois, Tennessee, and Alabama to win this tourney. I had a lot of fun watching these NKY boys play this weekend. Congrats to them and good luck in the Blue Chip Early Exposure Showcase next weekend at Midamerica Sports Center in Louisville.

The place to be this past weekend and where it was all happening was Hoopsfest at the Expo center. Look no farther than the number of coaches that make it a can't miss event.

Yeah, I guess so if you wanted go broke. And why be a smart BUTT?

I don't know the complete roster- mostly Conner and SK kids. I heard they were picking up several ex-SS Bundy players..........leaving the original RD kids/parents not very happy. Not sure if the angst was the additional players and reduced minutes or the exhorbitant fees for a 'non profit' organization.

Irregardless, congrats to the kids for competing hard and bringing home a title.

Coaches are Mike Hester and Seth Blevins.

Roster includes, Nick Ayers, Riley Barnes, Jon Schoonover (CCA), Drew Shelton (Cooper), Cody Monson, Jarrod Swanson, Andrew Sampson, Christain Morgan (Gallatin County).

Cameron Murphy is also on this team, but I haven't seen him.

What happened to SS-Bundy? Are they no longer together?

Depends upon whom you speak with regarding that disfunctional group. Bundy never seemed to 'mesh' with this group. He cut several good players that ended up with the RD team and kept some that were suspect. He quit mid-season and turned the team over to Hamm (from Mason and TMC) to finish out the year. Somehow, the brass at SS decided to end the team and 're-assign' kids to other SS teams in Ohio.

The kids that I know enjoyed playing for Hamm and would have continued on with him. The contrary is true of Bundy- none of them enjoyed working with him.

The majority of them either gave up on the season, a few went to RD and a few joined SS Ohio teams.

Depends on your team and organizations goals at this time. With their new additions Real Deal has some players who can compete at the top levels. Maybe timing just wasn't right to try and compete at Hoopfest?

You make a good point.

Nice to see that Cam Murphy is back on the local AAU scene! Are there stats/records for this RD team? Their website leaves much to be desired.

So essentially its all SK kids, one Cooper, one GC and one HC. I dont see any bigs here or is it just me.

When I saw them at state, they had several bigs from Cooper or Conner (not sure which). Interested to see how that team looks with 5 PG's............

Pretty much, it was a Cooper/SK mix to begin but that didn't last long. Jon plays big, and is probably one of the best around you've never heard of, Ayers is a hybrid and Shelton being the only true big.

It looks like Hamm will face some of his former players this weekend back at MidAmerica. He will be coaching Shining Star Sports- Downs 16U group as Downs is on vacation. If the schedule on the site is correct then they will face off Saturday afternoon.
