July 3, 201016 yr Joker has to do what he believes is best for the team. Every move he has made in not bringing someone back has been when he already had a replacement ready to step in. I am betting that is the case now and may have just taken longer to find someone that he wanted. Good luck to Coach Ortmayer. He has had a long career, much of which was in the NFL and if he chooses to retire, I hope he enjoys it. He was a part of the rebuilding of the UK football program and I appreciate his efforts. Evidently they didn't appreciate his efforts-just kick him to the curb. Coach Ortmayer is one heck of a guy. He is not all full of himself like many of the college coaches are and I hate to see him done this way.
July 3, 201016 yr I don't know if it's the same coach as the last few years, but if so the special teams unit has cost them at least a couple of games a year the last couple of seasons. That may be why. Special teams also keep them in some games that they should have lost.
July 3, 201016 yr I've been to a lot of UK clinics and I have to say the 3 coaches that Joker let go were the same 3 that I was not impressed with. I couldn't understand Higgins the OL coach, the DL coach was out of touch with the players, and Ortmayer was hard to follow when he was giving instructions.

Coach Ortmayer had one year left on his contract- I think the "powerhouse Kentucky football program" could have survived and let the man go out with some dignity. I'm not that impressed with Joker quite honestly, some of his play calling last year seemed to be really lacking. Some want to criticize the special teams, but according to courier-journal.com- In 2004, UK set a school record by blocking nine opponent kicks. In 2005-UK broke school records for kickoff-return and punt return average, and UK was the only school ranked among the nations top five in both kickoff and punt returns. In 2006 UK was the only program to rank among the top 10 nationally in both those categories, leading the nation in punt returns. When has the UK football program ever lead the nation in any category?

Maybe that's just me though, I've never felt like the guy did a bad job. I think Joker is wanting to make alot of changes, I just hope it doesn't come back to bite him and us UK fans in the end. It's hard to argue with the results Brooks had, but some have said that UK should keep moving forward and I guess this is an attempt to try it.
July 9, 201016 yr GREG NORD is who was recruiting Durham, who will now be starting RT for UK (SEC) Guess he was wrong. I can remember hearing how this all happened and felt bad for the Durham kid. Here is the article below. Why do we need a CARD with us. Brad Durham and U of L There has been plenty of talk about Rockcastle County offensive lineman Brad Durham having his scholarship offer pulled by the University of Louisville last weekend. First of all here are the facts: Durham (6-5, 305) was offered a scholarship sometime prior to August and then accepted it to U of L in August. He has helped his team to a 10-1 record this season but his coach Tom Larkey admitted the offense has changed and the school is running the ball more than passing this season. Now, the rest of the story. After evaluating some tape from this season, the U of L staff (who can't comment on the matter) told Rockcastle County athletic director Barry Noble they didn't feel like Durham "would be happy at U of L this time next year." The translation, he wouldn't be playing a lick. Larkey was not happy and called coach Bobby Petrino "unethical" to the Danville paper's Larry Vaught, who also writes for the CatsPause.com website. Durham had picked U of L over UK, so right away this became an in-state war of words. It's called the recruiting game. There's nothing illegal with what happened but I will have to admit it's not a great PR move on Louisville's part. Sure, it happens all the time to recruits in more than just football but I don't think coach Petrino wants to keep operating this way with in-state kids especially. It just doesn't look right. Now, with that said lets talk about the kid. I have only seen Durham on a tape and wasn't blown away by his talents. He's a good lineman with great size and potential. But if the U of L coaches felt they made a bad decision, they really might have done the kid a favor. I sure wouldn't want my son signing with a college where the coaching staff knew he wasn't going to play much throughout his career. Now, Durham can re-open his recruitment and go where he feels wanted. I assume he's now going to commit and then sign with UK. jodydemling.courier-journal.com/2006_11_01_archive.html

Special teams were horrible they could not cover kicks and they had a million kicks blocked this move is way over due and Joker is not afraid to make changes that will help UK improve.

Maybe, but isn't he responsible for having someone ready to put into the game instead of inconsistent Seiber? And we can debate on low kicks, etc., but how many times did UK have a kick blocked during the last few years? Certainly it can't all be put on the coach but sometimes someone just has to fall on the sword.
