January 4, 201115 yr Damien Jurado (and Gathered In Song) - I Break Chairs This is a fantastic rock album from an artist who's other work strays very little from the lo-fi indie folk genre. One of my personal favorites from the 00's. I think it's like 40 minutes long, front to back, and I fairly frequently find myself listening to it 2 and 3 times straight. I'm yet to introduce it to an independent music fan who didn't love it. ...and the jacket of the vinyl actually folds out to make a 3D chair.
January 4, 201115 yr Author "Fading Light" by Kim Taylor (Sides 1/2) Kim's an outstanding singer-songwriter in the Cincy area who's been featured on The World Cafe before, and her songs have been featured on some TV shows and movies. Check her out if you're into the folkie sort of thing.

January 18, 201115 yr Author I've tried to figure out what the attraction to this band is, but I'm stumped. I pretty much can't stand them, one of the rare occasions when my tastes completely flies in the face of critical consensus. The guy's voice just grates on me.

I've never found anything annoying about his voice. Honestly, though, I don't know how much bearing the outright quality of "vocals" has on the music that I listen to, depending on what they do to otherwise supplement the vocals. I know of quite a few people, personally, who love to hate on the vocals from quite a few of my favorite acts: Doug Martsch (Built To Spill), Tom Waits, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Kristian Matsson (Tallest Man On Earth), Justin Vernon (Bon Iver)... Phoenix just really makes me tap my feet, and they've got an electronic twist that I really dig - I spent a good amount of my later teenage years engrossed in the techo/house/rave scene. To each their own, I suppose.

Rex - Electric Warrior [ATTACH]33241[/ATTACH] Something kind of interesting I found on Saturday out by chance: I drove home from a jobsite about an hour and a half away, and I had my iPod plugged into the stereo in my truck, listening to things on shuffle mode. As I pulled up to the house the song "Everlasting Light" was playing. It's the first cut from the newest Black Keys album, Brothers. The song was about two-thirds of the way through playing as I turned off my truck and headed into the house. I fixed myself some lunch, humming the song while I was in the kitchen. Then after I finished eating, I went into the living room and put my new (to me) copy of T.Rex's Electric Warrior album on the turntable. First song up is called "Mambo Sun".
