March 30, 201115 yr Author Feelin' kinda British tonight ... "Definitely Maybe" by Oasis, their grossly overlooked debut. First time I heard this album, I was living in BG and horribly depressed after a breakup and losing a job. It snapped me right out of it, and I remain a staunch defender of the jerks today as a result.
March 30, 201115 yr Author "Extraordinary Machine" by Fiona Apple Certainly one of the most alternately brilliant and overlooked albums of the past decade, by a criminally (pun intended) overlooked amazingly talented artists.

March 30, 201115 yr Author "Bolsa De Agua" by The Gourds, an outstanding Austin band This is a band all of you have heard, but didn't realize it. You know that country-fried cover of Snoop's "Gin And Juice" that floats around? Yeah, it was credited to Phish by those Napster morons, but it was actually these guys. They are fantastic live, and do incredible covers, some of which include "2000 Man," "Ziggy Stardust," "Waxy's Dargle" and an amazing version of Tom Petty's "American Girl." Oh, and in some red meat for you Wildcat fans: The accordion player, Claude Bernard, has had an old, raggedy Kentucky hat on in all of the half-dozen times I've seen them in concert, and we've discussed it before. He said an old friend gave it to him. Apparently it became his trademark, as he seems to be wearing the same hat in recent video clips. I last saw the band live in 2002 in Austin at SXSW.

April 6, 201115 yr Big Mama Thornton - Stronger Than Dirt Includes the original version of " " (as later covered by Elvis), and covers of Bob Dylan's " ", Albert King's " ", Ray Charles' " ", Gershwin's " ", and Muddy Waters' " " - which some versions call "Catfish" or "Catfish Blues", since "Rollin' Stone" was originally Muddy's take on that song.
April 14, 201115 yr Picked this one up at the local auction last night for a buck and a half. Nice...is that the actual album cover? I believe that is on the UK Parlophone label...
April 14, 201115 yr LOVE/Self titled first press/Side One Side Two... Solid! That's one album I've definitely been keeping an eye out for.
