June 30, 201016 yr Thunder? Really? If the Lakers meet them in the Western finals, I'm saying they take them in 5 or a sweep. First round is a completely different story. They're a good squad but no way they compete with the Lakers when things get super serious. Yes the Thunder, the Lakers were better but they were pushed. The young Thunder will be a year older which is great for them. The Lakers will also be a year older. Which is not so good. The wear and tear of the Lakers of making it to the finals three straight years will finally catch up. the Lakers will not dominate for much longer.

But everyone was talking Cavs, Nuggets, Mavs, Suns, etc. No one knew the Celtics were making it to the finals. Lakers were a favorite to make it but no one knew for sure who was making it. Put LBJ, Wade, and Bosh on a team and kiss the eastern conference debate goodbye. Who would pick against them?

Orlando would still give them a battle. An established team will always give a battle to a team that is just thrown together. I am not so sure that a team of stars can win in the playoffs if they do not buy into the "team" concept. The playoffs is what brings in the fans. Most of your average fans would not watch the regular no matter what goes on. The playoffs is when most watch and a team like that would bring them aboard for the playoffs.

June 30, 201016 yr The NBA was at it's best when there was little parody. It does nothing for the regular season to have 8 teams in the west win around the same number of games (where is the upset when every team is evenly matched?). When you have the few "super" teams, not only does it get the buzz going about them, it also affords more opportunities to root for the underdog. People either like the dominant team or the guy with no chance. I think it would be great for the league to have the 5 or so "super" teams because eventually a Little guy is going to knock one of them off and make for an even better story.
June 30, 201016 yr Author I compare it to how baseball is currently structured. The Yankees and Red Sox for example are able to grab talented free agents. Smaller market teams have had to find a way to adapt to stay semi-competitive. Plus it is great to have a villain in sports.
June 30, 201016 yr People may want to root for an underdog, but again, no one will come close to beating a Bosh, Wade, Lebron combination in the East. There's no hope for other teams. That's no fun.. Baseball is a bit different because even though the Yanks and Sox load up on the best players every single year, they aren't guaranteed a World Series appearance every year. Basketball is completely different. The best, most talented teams will end up in the finals. It's as simple as that. Boston showed they were more talented (especially defensively) than any team in the east and the Lakers proved they were as good as we expected.

June 30, 201016 yr I do think that a team that has played together for years can beat a team that is thrown together in a year. A good example of that IMO is the Pistons team that won the title. They had no where close to the talent of that Lakers team with Shaq, Kobe, Payton, Malone, etc.

June 30, 201016 yr The thread has nothing to do with NBA revenue and viewers it was about the competitive nature of the league and IMO I don't think there would be any competition, especially in the East. I'll compare it to the MLB again. What gets better ratings, a Yankees/Orioles series or a Yankees/Sox series? Obviously the Sox series because it's competitive. No one will watch a bunch of All-Stars beat up on below average teams all year. People like competition. No one will continue to watch a Miami Heat game after the 2nd quarter when they're winning by 15 or 20 every game. The only series that would bring any revenue would be the Western conference, the Eastern finals and the NBA finals.
