My point is not with age or class, and I know nothing of the teams or games you guys are discussing. I doubt that anyone tries to break a rule and even if so, it's summer ball. My slight aggravation is when players drop down once the varsity loses or show up for the tourney after not playing in the pool. I am sure it is 'legal' if they are on the roster, but it feels like an old mens' softball tournament where the team you meet in the finals on Sunday is nothing like the team of the same name you beat in the first round on Friday or Saturday, after they have picked up several players from teams that lost and others that were unavailable early.

South runs a great program and whatever they do has worked.

I don't blame South for letting Sanders play since he's a sophomore. I would have liked to have seen what Harlan County could have done in the JV tourney with five sophomores in the top six on the varsity squad.

I can agree with you................Add in Sears, Slavey, Mitchell, Abner and Byrd with the ones that were there from Souths Sophomore class and I think we may see some great battles between Harlan Co and South Laurel for the next few years.

I agree. They had some great battles last year. Clay also has a very good sophomore class.

 

I was also impressed with Pineville's JV. I think they made it to the final four with a strong group of sophomores that was a step below the three I mentioned from last year. Pineville will probably be the All "A" favorite in 2012 and 2013 with Harlan not too far behind.

Did Harlan even have a JV in it? I had heard they had better younger players coming up but didn't see a team.

Neither Harlan nor Harlan County had a JV team this year. Harlan played JV only last year, but now they start two seniors and a junior, plus one sophomore and one freshmen. This year may turn out to be Harlan's best team for several years. The younger group doesn't have a lot of offensive punch at this point and not much size, which will make matching up with Pineville tougher since they are 6-3 and 6-4 inside.

AAU seems to be a waning fad in KY. It appears to me, too many coaches and/or teams have been burned by inordinate competition levels, high fees, and disorganization.

My opinion is that if you are going to play younger kids in both JV and Varsity who cares. As long as you are not using Seniors for JV games, then I might have to laugh at the motivation to try and win a game.

I saw Tates Creek. Neither Barksdale or Fucci played. I also thought Henry Clay looked good early on. I don't know what happened to them in the tournament. I thought Scott Co. looked really good when I seen them as well. Why would South Laurel play a sr JV? Thats a little odd.

 

I wonder why more teams don't play in this? Like Clark Co, LexCath, and Mason Co. Its not a far trip for them and from what I seen its ran really well. The referees are getting evaluated and seem like they are trying to better themselves. I understand Louisville schools. Isn't the Derek Smith tournament going on.

I agree with you wish more teams would of played in it so it could of possibly been a better measuring stick. I don't know about the Derek Smith Tour, But J-Town spent the weekend at a tournament in OH, i think Dayton, but don't quote me on that Heard they won most of thre games by plus 35. I think they may be the pre season #1. They are likey to win the Blue Grass Championship in Frankfort Tomorrow.

Harlan beat Fleming County.

Harlan County upset Lafayette and beat Hazard and lost its last game of pool play but still won its pool.

I was disappointed that Clay didn't make it for the AAU tourney. They'll be ranked first in the 13th this year.

 

Is Coach Coldiron still at Lafayette and how did Jackson Davis look? I worked with his father in Lexington and I'm curious as to how he is progressing.

Greg Coldiron is entering his second year as Lafayette's head coach. He was Cawood's first Kentucky All Star in 1978 and was one of the best to ever play at the school.

Davis didn't dominate the scrimmage I saw, but you can tell he's going to be a very good player.

Thanks HDE. I'm just a tad to young to have watched Coach play at Cawood, but I was on the losing side of several games of HORSE during PE during my time at JACHS.
