Cotton is a great athlete. I'm guessing he prefers baseball.

TMC has 7 seniors to be on their roster from last year plus 5 juniors to be plus last years freshman class so it could be interesting how many of them return this year to play at TMC, with Ryan and the other incoming freshman it will be interesting to see who sticks around and plays or which ones might look elsewhere to play before the fall semester starts.

I think they only lost 3 seniors? On their web site, it looks like they had about 20 on their roster last year. I have seen about 6 or more incoming recruits mentioned this year. Probably some of the existing underclassmen on the team won't come back due to playing time, academics, finances, etc.? I'm guessing that this type of turnover is common with the smaller schools?

I do believe there is at least one who will not be coming back to the team but staying in school to finish his degree.

Congrats to this young man for getting the opportunity to play at the next level.

Not sure about prior years but this year with the talent they had, there should have been a few more players getting scholarships. ie. Earls, Cotton, Gabbard and possibly Shultz (sp?)

 

Edit: My mistake you are correct he was a senior. He is a very talented player the only thing that hurt him is he didn't get a ton of playing time. While he still played some good minutes, he could have got more if not for Boone's pretty good guards that were a little ahead of him talent wise.

If you want a spot, and you were one of the better players on your high school team, I think you can latch onto a D3 team. Some hangers on who weren't actively recruited could be relegated to JV most of their college time, and others are looked to be significant contributors or start on the varsity team.

 

Many kids who choose D3 schools have options to play at larger schools but choose D3 for various reasons, like academics, distance from home, etc.

 

If you are a decent player and pay your tuition on time Thomas More and many other D3 schools will welcome you to the team. I went to some of their games last year and they would dress around 20 guys.

Thomas More appears to play about 8 to 10 guys a game for at least 10 minutes because of their up-tempo style. The top 5 all average between 15 to 25 minutes usually. Looks like they had about 20 total between JV and varsity. Several of the JV players didn't see much varsity time.

 

TM also gives out academic awards from $4500 to $7000 to most of their students who qualify. Some players can go to these type of schools very cheaply after this and financial aid.

I can't speak for the basketball team, but I don't believe the soccer team cuts anyone. Obviously there are some that don't play much if any but from what I have heard the soccer team doesn't cut anyone. Does anyone know if this is the same for the basketball team? This would explain why they dress so many kids.

I don't see how this is possible with basketball. Schools would have too many kids on the team. Even the D3s do recruit players who they feel will help them win. They might also take some players who come to them, and it is up to those players to earn their PT on varsity. Soccer and football teams carry a lot more kids. TM basketball probably dresses more kids because they press the whole game and run kids in and out to spell the starters. Also, 20+ kids can be on the team just like high schools, if there is a JV team.

I agree it would be tough for basketball because there are far less players on the court than the soccer field, I was just throwing it out there because I did think it was odd and didn't know if it was a school thing or just a soccer coach thing. Being such a small school though it would be possible they don't cut any. Many of the kids that go there are going to get a good education at a Catholic school and don't want to play sports. Im curious to know how many people they have that go out for the team each year
