TOG where's the good, the bad and the ugly?

 

 

So SS I help do the game live on the Internet Radio (where you could have listened in rather easily or still listen) but you want me to do a play by play for you on BGP's also? Gee! It was as a long hot tiring day at work Wednesday , then doing the game went home and got some sleep after I posted Congrats to HC. Had to be in very early this morning for work and will be going over to one of the players home for some dinner tonight. Maybe on Friday or Saturday....

At the risk of stealing TOG's thunder, I'll try to provide a recap:

 

Warning had pitched a fantastic game going into the 6th with CCH leading 3 - 0. HC got hot in the 6th and started hitting the ball pretty well. When Warning left the game, HC had scored 4 runs and had two runners on base (1st and 3rd) with only one out. Shumate came in and got the first batter to hit the ball to the shortstop. The shortstop bobbled the ball and was unable to turn the double play, so he settled on getting the out at first. The HC runner who was on third scored on the play and the runner who was on first attempted to go to third on the throw from the shortstop to first. The throw from the first baseman to the third baseman beat the runner to the bag, but he was safe (from where I was sitting, I couldn't tell if the the throw was off line or if it was dropped). The next batter walked after a 3 - 2 battle (several fouls), and the runner on third scored on a passed ball/wild pitch (couldn't see which). The final HC batter of the inning grounded out for the 3rd out. Shumate's line for the inning: no hits, no runs, one walk, three batters faced, two batters retired. Michael Hellman pitched the 7th and did a great job, retiring all 3 batters he faced.

 

Well not at all counts... Warning did pitch and so did Shumate.

Not so sure he bobbled that ball but if he could have turned the DP (BTW not at all a sure thing by any means) then CovCath is out of the inning with only giving up 4 runs and might have played that seventh inning a bit different, being only down by 1 run, then being down by three runs.....but it didn't happen so.....game over...

 

BTW when was the last time that Holmes/HC put water on that infield? I mean it was like hitting on a concrete street, as both teams hit some mighty high chops when the ball hit the dirt! Heck one of the hops was hit over Hellman head while he was on the mound and he is 6'3 + inches tall.

Don't beat yourself up TOG, you do a great job.

Holy Cross would love to be able to water the field, cut the grass, reshape the infield lips (inside and outside), put clay around the plate and on the mound, fertilize, get rid of the weeds in the outfield grass, work on the scoreboard, but Covington won't let us!!! Just wanted to let TOG we have tried many times for many years to work on the field.

Indeed that is a pity that HC wants to improve the field but the City of Covington won't allow them. So what are they (City of Covington) worried about, that you might just might make it a better baseball field!

Holy Cross won the district in 97' against Cov. Cath. eventually losing in the Regional finals to Highlands 5-3.

 

My memory is horrible, but I do know that Holy Cross did not play CovCath in the 1997 district championship game. The 1997 district games were played at CovCath, but the game was played between Holy Cross and Dixie. HC beat CCH to advance to the finals while Dixie beat Beechwood to advance to the finals.

TOG - no worries and no apology needed. I was at my son's game and not able to listen to the CovCath radio broadcast. By the way Mark Wehry does a great job as does our Schab's at Brossart. I never liked listening to or watching a game that is not live. Usually your posts are most informative and this was a big game - I was surprised not to see all the details. Thanks for all the posting that you do. I look forward to your future posts. BTW the good, the bad and the ugly is one of my favorite Clint Eastwood movies.
