Beechwood's Johnson versus Cooper's Thompson. Ryan Thompson was simply outstanding giving up 1 hit and 1 hit batter. Catcher Kilborn continued his fine job catching by throwing out one of those runners stealing second. Johnson threw hard and the score was 1-0 after four when Griggs doubled in Bjurquist. John Bjurquist also hit a solo homerun. Congrats to Freshman AJ Collins on his first Varsity Homerun over the center field fence at Beechwood. Ramey had a triple to drive in a run as well.

 

After some rough defense in the double header split on Saturday, the Jag's played perfect defense tonight with ZERO error's. Great job guys.

That is a very good win for the Jags. Beechwood shoud contend for the region. Looks like the program is moving forward nicely for Cooper.

They will have to make it to region first and they will have a very tough road to do so. Holy Cross and CCH stand in the way.

Coach Bieger has been moving several kids around trying to find the right combination. He has moved starting 2nd baseman Blank from second to short when Thompson pitches and Whitehead comes off the bench and plays second. Collins moves from catcher to CF and Kilborn from CF to catcher. Both have done terrific in their new positions. The batting order has moved several times as well. Blank has taken over lead-off spot the last several games and moves Thompson to the 3rd spot in the order. These moves have been working well to this point. Brownfield has been playing RF and made a nice catch tonight early in the game.

 

Not everyone agrees with all the moving around but hopefully a set line-up is soon and they can get ready for a tough District.

Not everyone agrees, I assume some parents are second guessing the moves. Go figure. Looks like from the outside looking in the players have bought into the system. That is all that matters

Very true. But you have to put into consideration that they faced a D1 pitcher Saturday. And a very good young pitcher today. Probably both are in the top 5 pitchers in the region. Luckily neither of them are in the Tigers district. In district play the Tigers will need to step it up a notch but the only pitching that will be even relatively close to what they saw over the weekend and today is if Roenker threw against them and maybe Warning or Gerwe. A big maybe.

That is a quality win against a quality team for sure. Great job! Glad to see AJ getting his first blast of the year. Probably would have had 2 on Saturday for sure it the wind wasn't so bad. It will be interesting in a couple of years for the Jags since 8th grader Hunter Dunn hit #4 on the year yesterday. We will have to see, but we could be looking at the beginning of the "Baby Bash Brothers" in the upcoming years. :thumb:

Beechwood is a talented team, but a very young team. I think with youth like that you are going to take some lumps every once and a while.

I agree ... two tough pitchers in the last two games. However, what was the best outing for each of these pitchers this season before they faced Beechwood? Have either of them pitched a no hitter or one hitter? Beechwood's current hitting slump made both of those two look even better than they are. How about the poor hitting in the district games against CCH and Holy Cross? The Beechwood hitters did have a good game recently against Boone County, who has one of the best pitching staffs in the area. So they can get it done. But the time to fix it and get it done is now.
