First, I have an iphone, which has voice activated dialing, 2nd I have it sync'd to my car, so I can speak without a phone in either hand. Now please for the sake of ending this meaningless arguement, tell me how that is any different than me having a conversation with someone that is in the car? The answer, it's not.

You don't have to partake in technology. You also don't have to partake in modern medicine. To each their own. I'm thrilled with my car/phone/iPod sync technology.

I'm with UKMF on this. Talking using a hands-free phone device (sync) is no different than talking to someone in the car next to you. You are looking ahead and simply talking. There is no difference.

To clear it up for you, modern medicine also uses new technology (quite an understatement on my part). If someone wants to be against technology, they have that right to do so. I personally am a fan of technology. It makes communication, entertainment (have a satellite dish?), medicine, transportation, agriculture, business, etc., easier.

I think that this is simply a stereotypical view. I know many women that hate to talk on the phone and several men that rely on it quite a bit.

My phone and iPod are both synced to my car. I love it. You are right. It's just like talking to the person sitting in the seat next to me.

Explain to me how it is more dangerous. I agree that any distraction can be bad. However, there simply is no difference between talking to someone that is physically sitting beside me in the car and someone whose voice is coming out over my car speaks and who I am talking to via a microphone somewhere in my dash. In either case, my eyes are on the road and my hands are on the wheel. Granted, a portion of my mind is on the conversation, but it is the same whether to a passenger or someone on the phone.

I agree entirely with what you are saying. However, some here (not necessarily Birdsfan) have argued that the simple act of conversing "on the phone" (hands free or not) distracts you more than conversing with someone in the car with you.

It possibly just depends on the comfort level of the person. I know I can handle talking on the phone while driving and still not put anyone at risk. I know we were discussing conversing on the phone, but the real risk is with texters. People who feel the need to text and read texts while they are driving do not have control over their situation. I mean how can you have control when you know you have to take your eyes off the road to read someone's text.
