Good article on Dixie's bench coach

Featured Replies

Here's a good article on Dixie's bench coach and his relationship with Max. For those familiar with high school baseball in NKY, you've either seen or heard of Pete Collins. He served as the bat boy for many years, and now serves as basically the bench coach for Dixie. He was, and is, a character, but he's one of the nicest guys you'll meet.

Have had the pleasure of meeting the young man and talking baseball with him. Cograts to him and Max also!

That article can't explain it any better. Petey is suck a great guy and one of the best people to have in a team's dugout. He is always cheerful no matter what situation is unfolding on the field. The way him and Max get along is one of the funniest relationship I've seen between coaches and friends. They are always finding a way to pick on each other. You can tell how highly they think of each other. Petey has been a big part of Dixie baseball for a lot time. Being able to hang out with him for my 4 years as a Dixie player and then again as an assistant the past two seasons has been awesome.

Great story. We need more of this in the world.

Have only got the privelage to talk to Pete once or twice but he was a riot both times. Although I've watched many varsity games in years past. He's one of the funniest people ever to watch at a baseball game and a GREAT mentor to the kids. It seems like he hates the opposition every game but after the last out is recorded he's friends with everyone.

I just found this article, I had the pleasure of knowing both men and both are great people. This is an awesome story. Peter can bring a lot to the school and the school certainly has meant a lot to Pete. Hats off to Max for keeping him around, I am sure it makes the Colonels better.

The article mentions he works at Kroger, is it the Silverlake location? If so I believe he was rounding up carts one day and he struck up a conversation about HS football after noticing my SK jacket.

That'd be Pete. He's been there for years.

Great article and great families.
