April 12, 201016 yr Did anybody watch? Dana White puts another guy in front of Silva that won't fight, then gets mad about Silva's performance. Get a clue. Either challenge the guy or get over it. He completely outclassed Maia for three rounds, battering him with a nice variety of kicks and punches. This, despite Maia's unwillingness to exchange, or do anything at all. With the fight in the bag, he shut it down for the last two rounds...and then, Maia actually threw a few strikes. And, to top it off with perfect irony, actually seemed to get frustrated because Silva wouldn't engage. And, of course, Dana White is mad about Silva's performance. Again. Is this the second or third time? There's one common denominator in every Silva fight that has drawn the ire of Dana White. The UFC puts an opponent in front of him that's too scared to fight. Naturally, that results in fights that don't meet expectations. If White wants to get his money's worth from the Spider, then he needs to keep putting opponents in the cage who aren't scared to death. Griffin, Henderson, Irvin, Franklin, etc...those guys at least had a plan and came into the octagon to try to win. Obviously, if you want to run away or lay on your back, you can go the distance with Silva. But, it's Dana White's (and Joe Silva's) job to put guys in there who will fight. Not to get made when some can runs away. It takes two to tango. :idunno: Silva looked crazy good in that fight while he was interested. His striking was razor sharp and lightning fast. They need to forget about Silva and the middleweight class. There are two options... 1. Move up...to 205 or heavyweight. 2. Superfights. Line up some fights with Silva against the best in the UFC from a variety of classes. GSP seems to be the big rumor now, so start there. There's nothing left at 185 and if they stay there, we'll see more fights like Saturday. And, oh yeah, BJ Penn lost to Frankie Edgar. Matt Hughes looked punished Renzo Gracie for a KO in the third round. That's the best I've seen Hughes' striking look.
April 12, 201016 yr I would like to see him fight GSP but Silva needs to permanently be moved up a weight class. Like you said, it's going to continue to be a joke if he keep's fighting middleweights. I was completely shocked to see Penn lose.

Like you said, it's going to continue to be a joke if he keep's fighting middleweights. I was completely shocked to see Penn lose. Me too...I figured he'd finish that fight in the first two rounds. I'm not really surprised that the Silva fight went 5 because I wasn't surprised that Maia wouldn't make a fight of it. I'm a little surprised that Silva shut down the way he did, but hey, he had it in the bag. They can either challenge him or let Strikeforce have him. But, enough of these guys who don't belong in the octagon with him. He knows it. We, the fans, know it. Apparently, the only ones who don't are Dana and Joe Silva. Dana White said Silva didn't deserve to fight GSP. That's laughable. And, he should thank the Spider for giving him a nice out from subjecting his golden boy to a beat down. The only way Silva loses to GSP is if he actually does cut down to 170 and can't handle it. If he's comfortable at the weight, it will be a first round KO.
April 12, 201016 yr How exactly did Penn lose? Everything I saw had him winning the entire fight and I never saw anything on tv about it.
April 13, 201016 yr I'll post my thoughts and I now I'll get blasted. Silva is no where close to P4P #1. Why? He is an elite striker........but refuses to go to the mat to finish anyone. Its MIXED martial arts, not K-1. People criticize BJJ guys for not engaging Silva on the feet, but why not criticize Silva for beating them on the ground? Silva is acting like he's bored out there, like he wants a real challenge. However, if that's actually the case, why didn't he just go to the ground with Leites and Maia. I mean if he wants a challenge, there's a case to be made that going into Maia's guard might be the biggest challenge available at 185.................... Fedor went into the guard of Big Nog when Big Nog was in his prime in PRIDE FC and beat the greatest BJJ HW in MMA EVER................ Silva is also catching flak by Brazilians for the dis-respectful things he said during the fight. Oh by the way, Maia tried to go after him in the 4th, faked a shot and came with an overhand left and caught Silva..........then Silva ran

April 13, 201016 yr I'm of the opinion that if a BJJ guy wants the fight on the ground he should be able to get it there himself. Silva shouldn't just be a counter striker, he should chase people down and attack..... I do agree though, these BJJ guys need wrestling to get the explosive take-downs. I hope Arona arrives in top form and soon........I want someone to crush Silva.
April 13, 201016 yr Silva shouldn't just be a counter striker, he should chase people down and attack.....Do you not agree that an elite BJJ guy should be able to get the fight to the ground if that's where he wants it?
April 13, 201016 yr Do you not agree that an elite BJJ guy should be able to get the fight to the ground if that's where he wants it? The problem I see with it is the fights starts standing. Strikers have a distinct advantage. I agree they should be able to get it there BUT in the same instance if Silva wants to brawl on the feet why should someone have to step to him, why doesn't he go after the opponent instead of waiting to counter-strike?

I don't like Silva's attitude but the guy is the champion and his style is what got him there. If Maia's ground game is supposedly the best in the weight class then he should be able to take Silva down on his own. I'm not in complete disagreement with you but he is the champion so why should he put himself in a disadvantageous position? If somebody wants the belt then they need to go take it from him. With that said, I think he's clearly the best middleweight in the world and needs to be moved up to 205 permanently.
April 13, 201016 yr I'm of the opinion that if a BJJ guy wants the fight on the ground he should be able to get it there himself. :thumb: I think Silva has an excellent ground game anyway. But, it's not his responsibility to make the fight more difficult for himself.
April 13, 201016 yr Im a big Silva guy and at first I thought what he was doing was funny but then it just got old and made me mad. He should have finished Maia and he didnt even really try to. I didnt want to see this fight in the first place but he could have made a better effort in the fight. The only fight left for him at 185 is Vitor and if he wins that he needs to give up the belt. I know Chael Sonnen is getting close to a title shot and he talks a big game but Silva would break his face. Silva needs to fight the best of the 205lb division. Nice fight for Frankie Edgar. I figured he would hang tough and take the fight into the later rounds but didnt expect him to win the fight. I thought it was a really tough fight to score and the only round I know for sure he won was the 5th. After that I just dont know. I thought BJ probably won the first and 2nd rounds. The judge who had it 50-45 is a moron.
