April 7, 201016 yr Author It helps to have kids that have been through the wars. For UK, I thought John Wall did a great job this year and what people will tell you is that he is a leader and it is one of his strongest attributes. However, he was a freshman, and the one guy you would think would be a leader was Patrick Patterson, but for all of his positive traits and he seems to be a upstanding citizen, he was not a leader and has usually been one to defer to others. They needed him to step up when things were heading south in the tourney, and he could not provide it. :thumb: Wall was a leader, just a very young leader that was experiencing his first NCAA Tournament. I think that's at the core of the debate...
April 7, 201016 yr Everyone can jock Coach K and the man's milestones speak for themselves. However, he had Maggette and he was one and done and it was a similar issue to Rose at Memphis and nary a word was said and I dont even think the NCAA ever made a ruling. He also had Deng, who was a one and doner. Heck, people were wondering if K had lost his mojo after the previous 3 year run. It is the system... Again Cal had to recruit like he did out of necessity. He talked about rebuilding the "brand" etc...he even said it is a 3-4 year process. UK's recruiting over the previous four to five years has not been top shelf and there is a roster imbalance that still needs to be worked out over the next few years.

April 7, 201016 yr Patterson was not put in a position to lead. Talking to some that know him, he wanted the ball late in games and even asked for it in huddles but Cal went with Wall and the other Frosh..........

Patterson took his fair share of big shots this season. A lot to choose from in the huddle.
