I would argue that they're not the same school. The 1982 state title was won representing a school that consisted of students (and basketball players, I assume) from all corners of the county.

 

When South Laurel won, it was a school of students from just part of the county.

Using another county as an example, if Boone County had won a state championship back in the 70's and then another one in 2005 would it be classified as two separate championships in the state program (Boone County Rebels before the split and Boone County Rebels after the split), because the county now has students at two new schools, Conner and Ryle?

Boone didn't, so the question is moot.

 

South Laurel and Laurel County might be from the same school building, but the name change is a pretty good indication that the school board doesn't consider them to be the same school.

It's my understanding that Hicks will be at Collins next year unless there is a change of address.
