Is the passing of Prop 20 the worst thing that could happen for PUBLIC schools?

Featured Replies

It means when this gets turned down in the later stages. Look for some private schools to take it out on the public on the play fields. Lloyd is going to be a whipping boy on the hardwood this year I hate to say GT.

I'm going to tell you right now that I've seen it all. I've coached in Eastern Ky, one of the surrounding counties outside of Louisville were supposedly X+T get all their kids and a top private school in Lex. I have seen two kids recruited by one of the Super Powers in Louisville in my surrounding school. I have never seen my big private school in Lex recruit from anywhere. I have been around A LOT of recruiting in Eastern KY. With that being said, I think it happens everywhere just about it too an extent. Why do the people that are crying over the privates not worry about open enrollment in Louisville? Do they not understand that they won't be able to touch the Male's of the world if this happens? Why aren't they crying about the schools that border other states? Do they not understand that those schools have gotten a lot of big impact players from across the bridge? It's never going to be totally fair. There are a lot of adults that look pretty silly in this whole mess!

I read in the paper today, that Northern Ky's member of the Kentucky Board of Education is against proposal 20. He hopes to defeat it on his level. Any idea how other members feel?

As an alumnus and supporter of a small Northern Kentucky parochial school I want to thank all of the public schools in this area that voted against Prop 20 . Thank you !

From my understanding, there was little support for this in Northern Ky. Only one local school supported it as far as I know. Most of us were pretty happy the way things are now. :thumb:

The BOC already met prior to yesterday and discussed which Props it would recommend and which Props it would not. Prop 20 was a not but that does not automatically defeat it.

I guess I just don't understand why such a drastic measure is necessary. IF the private schools have an unfair advantage because they can draw from anywhere, isn't it enough to pass proposals giving them geographic limits for their athletes? That way, any student can still attend that school, but it limits the school's ability to recruit athletes from greater than 20 miles and/or crossing state lines. Why isn't this an adequate compromise?

They talk about it being fair, but the truth is it's not about leveling the playing field, so they won't listen to reason.

Ok, at the risk of sounding stupid........What is it about?

I think it will definately put more public schools under the microscope when they are accused of recruiting. And I expect the number of recruiting allegations by private against public will increase now.
