Only two in state losses this year and 2-1 against the BGP top 20.. I guess we'll find out here very soon if your comment is correct or not.

 

As for the rankings, I still do not see how Scott Co is #2. They've lost to #3 Ballard AND have losses to Lexcath and Lex Christian inside the region. No way this team DESERVES to be #2 in front of Ballard.

Your comparison isn't a very good one here. North Carolina is barely above .500, whereas Holmes is 22-5 with just 2 in state losses.

 

They've lost to the following teams:

 

Bowman Academy (17-1): Currently #3 in Indiana, regardless of class, behind Bloomington South and North Central (Indianapolis).

 

Ballard (24-4): #3 in BGP poll, as high as #2 or #1 in other polls.

 

McEachern, GA (17-4): Three of their four losses are to top 50 teams, nationally. Their other loss is to #1 in Kentucky, Trinity.

 

Princeton, OH (15-4): Losses are to Oak Hill Academy (VA), Pine Crest, FL (Brandon Knight's team) by 3, Cleveland Benedectine, OH (top 50 nationally), Lakota West, OH (Jordan Hicks #1 LB in country)

 

Ryle (14-11): Own wins over Lafayette, Highlands (when healthy), and Holmes.

 

Bowman beat Holmes by 2 (60-58) on late free throws after Holmes led by as many as 12.

 

Ballard beat Holmes by 8 (60-52), but led by 2 with a little over a minute left. Late free throws and Holmes jacking up 3's caused the margin to swell to 8. Only team to lead Holmes the entire game.

 

McEachern beat Holmes by 8 (59-51), but same with Ballard game, late free throws was what made the final margin what is was. Holmes led by double digits in the first half.

 

Princeton beat Holmes by 3 in OT. Holmes battled back from down 7 with 2 minutes to go.

 

Ryle beat Holmes by 5, but Holmes simply didn't finish. They were up 16 after the first quarter. Ricardo Johnson got in some foul trouble and Ryle forced Holmes to shoot jumpers which allowed them back in the game. A break away lay up at the buzzer for Ryle made the final 51-46 after Pittman missed a 3 with 5 seconds left.

 

Considering the quality of the teams that Holmes lost to, how can you say they aren't top 5?? They also own a win over Memphis Central who has beaten national power, Memphis Melrose, twice this year. I think some of you are seriously overlooking them if you think they aren't top 5.

I question Warren Central being ranked this high.

 

Only way I can figure it is that the loss to North Hardin is basically thrown out for, how you say, extenuating circumstances. Victories over LexCath, Tates Creek, Bowling Green and especially Christian County are being given heavy weight it would seem. I would rather they had been about 3-4 spots lower, but I'd bet that was the train of thought that led them to be there. That's why last week I said I'd be interested to see how far they'd fall, if at all. WC is 4-3 versus teams currently in the top 15, 2-1 since the beginning of the new year.
