February 21, 201016 yr Wouldn't the honorable thing have been to finish out the term that she was elected to and NOT capitalize on her 'fame'? The honorable thing to do would to do what she thought was best for her, her family and her constituents. Who are you to judge whether or not the decision she made she was honorable or not? What's not honorable about capitalizing on fame??
February 21, 201016 yr Wouldn't the honorable thing have been to finish out the term that she was elected to and NOT capitalize on her 'fame'? You could argue that also. I'm saying there is an argument both ways.
February 21, 201016 yr I guess if you're saying that bailing on the voters that elected you for a full term simply to chase the easy dollars is honorable then I'm with you. Is it more honorable than keeping the job and chasing the easy dollars while ignoring the people who elected you? Our current president did that. Let's face it, that happens all the time. She is acting more honorable now than she did last year when she ran for vp while keeping her job as governor. She's more honorable than Obama, McCain, Clinton, and all the others who did the same thing. I'm just saying the argument is there.

It's honorable to keep the commitment that she made to serve her constituents. IMO that is much more honorable than chasing after the fifteen minutes. She hasn't demonstrated that she wants to stay out of the spotlight, thus keeping her family out of it, too. You can certainly feel free to believe whatever reason that you want to and I'll do the same.

I don't see as how the two are anywhere near each other as far as being the honorable thing to do. How is she still serving her constituents? Additionally, she'll make much more on her speaking engagements than she would have made as VP. That screams much more selfish to me than to continue to hold a public office.

Where is the honor in holding a public office for the steady paycheck, benefits and exposure while building a personal portfolio and platform for private gain... while allowing the needs of constituents to simmer on the back burner? There have been far too many politicians that have done just that.
February 22, 201016 yr Is having Wealth Envy a dishonorable state of mind to be in? Would not grieving over others wealth be honorable?

No way if you're comparing to those who seek another office while still serving. She's not still soaking her constituents while not doing the job. It puts her at the top of a very low bar. Remember we're talking honor and politicians. It doesn't matter how much she would make as vp, it's the power and contacts that counts. As to still serving her consttituents, she's not and I don't believe I said she was.

Our system forces candidates to campaign while they hold another political office so I have no issue with any candidate in that situation. No candidate is going to give up their job as a senator/governor/congressperson to run for President.

So it's ok for them to seek power and riches while soaking the people who voted for them but it's not ok for someone to resign so she can seek riches? How do you justify that?
February 22, 201016 yr Senator Dole did when he ran for the Presidency. An honorable man. Too bad he was a lousy candidate.
February 22, 201016 yr Author Senator Dole did when he ran for the Presidency. Didn't he retire after he lost he bid?
