Blowout...maybe. LOL

 

NCC puts the wood to the Cru....I dont care how many players are out, they got beat by 30 pts. Period. Dave Faust cannot be happy tonight.

Wow. All I can say.

Figured it would be in the 15 to 20 range but 30 come on, do not think anyone could have helped them tonight.

Newport Central Catholic 73, St. Henry 43: Junior center Jake Geisler scored 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead NewCath, the No. 4 team in the Enquirer Northern Kentucky coaches' poll.

 

Derek Schmidt added 15 points for the Thoroughbreds. Schmidt, a senior forward, also went 3-for-3 from beyond the 3-point arc.

 

Grant Pangallo and Brady Hightchew scored 12 points each for NewCath (12-6).

St. Henry played like they did not want to be there. They missed a lot of defensive assignments and seemed out of sync all night. New Cath seemed better prepared for this game and took it to St. Henry. Good job to the New Cath players and coaches.

I think Schmidt is difference between NewCath be an average team, or being a force to be reckoned with. Giesler, Pangallo and Hightchew are all pretty consistent game in game out. When Schmidt is hitting the 3's, NewCath becomes a very dangerous team. If he stays hot, I like their chances of winning the District, and perhaps making it to the Finals in the Region. If he is off (ie. Newport, CovCath) they become a very average team offensively.

After the first quarter the hardest thing to figure out was if the actual score was right on scoreboard due to some confusion on some three point shots. Otherwise this game was over by halftime. The Crusaders will need to regroup quickly as they have Newport on Friday.

No doubt this was St. Henry's most disappointing game this year. They looked over sized, over matched, out of control. They tried to play fast, but too fast at times. Way too many turnovers. No discipline on offense or defense. To often they tried to shoot over Giesler and that wasn't happening. When they did finally get the game back to 8 in the 2nd qtr, they had to awful possessions in a row that put the game to 13 really fast.

 

With that said...Im not sure why Brannen still had most of his starters in the entire 4th qtr. Meyer and Giesler both finally came out under the 3min mark. St. Henry had basically threw in the towl and had lots of back of the bench guys playing out the 4th qtry, w/ exception to 1 guy.

Ouch...sounds like Newcath really took it to the Cru'.

 

Geisler with 20 doesn't surprise me. Kind of figured he'd dominate down low.
