That's how it was. After the season everyone thought Ariza would stay and Odom would go. Keeping Odom and adding Artest was worth getting rid of Ariza.

The Magic had already signed Vince Carter before Hedo opted-out of his contract. Essentially they knew it was going to happen, they just could not afford his asking price.

The move to cut bait with Ariza had a lot more to do with resigning Odom than it did securing Artest.

 

Odom was the last of the three to sign so that made no difference in the Ariza stuff. It didn't have anything to do with that IMO. Don't Artest and Ariza have a similar contract now?...Oh wait yeah they do....the MLE. They were already going to be over the luxury tax, and decided that Artest was an upgrade at the 3 and cheaper than Ariza. It's that simple.

I think the reason he wouldn't take it is b/c they pulled the offer. I'd say the blame falls an Ariza's agent for not understanding his market value.

Exactly, they pulled it and were more than happy with Artest. Once he was an option, they decided not to mess with Ariza anymore.:thumb:

I agree. I think Ariza's agent botched the whole thing. However, if he wants to make more money in the future, going to Houston may have been the right move ultimately. There he should have a bigger role and a better opportunity to showcase his talent. In LA, he was never going to be more than a fifth option if the team was healthy.

Ariza went to the Rockets because his agent screwed up the deal and because he wanted more of a chance to be "the guy". He would have been the 4th or 5th option in LA. I don't think it was a good decision considering the money was about the same and his number are down from last year.

He sat out the last game and looks like he might tonight as well. Just go ahead and shut him down for 2 or 3 weeks and let him get healthy. He has played through injury after injury. Get somewhat healthy before the playoffs.

I heard he may sit out through the All Star break. I think that would be a good idea.
