Wrong Day. Thanks CovCathiRadio

Thanks OldGuy. Correction, CovCath plays NCC Monday the 8th, not Tuesday.

I notice Newport is not playing in the tournament. This doesn't surprise me at all. Newport's freshmen team is playing the small school tournament and IMO this is a mistake on Newport's part. If you want to build a successful program you have got to play a tough schedule. This freshmen squad has no leadership on the floor. Too many players on the team are more concern about their own performance rather than the team winning.

IMO I look for Highlands freshmen to win the tournament.

I think Highlands has the easiest path to the semi's but IMO there is no way Highlands will win this tourney. I see them winning one game at most.

Expound please. They have beaten some very good teams this season, virtually everyone in the lower bracket that they have been placed. Only two teams in top bracket to beat them were Scott and Cov Cath. Scott won in the final 3 minutes of their game and they only won by 7. The Colonels beat them pretty good on their home floor but the Birds have come a long way since then. This team is hungry and expecting to be playing for the championship and I wouldnt be surprised to see a Highlands / Cov Cath Final. Cov Cath has much more depth than the Birds who typically play 6 kids 20 of the 24 minutes in a game. When the Birds played CovCath I know the Colonels went atleast 10 deep and some of the subs played better than the starters. That is a nice luxury to have.

For one, having a bye of course helps in the first game, and with their first game being the winner of Holmes / St Henry, that should be a fairly wasy game for them. However, I do not see them winning their next game. IMO Boone will be the team that advances to the final of the lower bracket. They always play tough in this tourney. I also think Ryle or Simon would have a better chance than Highlands. Of course, just MO. That is why they play the games!

Well, we all have our own opinions but I have seen a ton of basketball over the past few years. Many of these kids I have watched play in middle school as well and I have to say I was not very impressed with any of the teams you mentioned. Now this is my opinion of them when they played the Birds. Ryle relies on Pavy and Mays too much and nobody else gets involved. SK has Johnson the guard but if you man up to him and put someone athletic on Barnes you pretty much shut them down. Racke did NOTHING against Highlands with Nick True guarding him. Boone Co had Dandy Jenkins who threw up several poor ill-advised shots and scored most of his points on put backs where he was a quicker jumper and got the board. Warning was cold from the outside and they didnt have an inside presence at all. Cox hardly played and when he did he struggled.

If you saw the Birds play CovCath and that was your only game seeing them then I can understand your take. It was their worst game of the year outside of losing to Brossart. They missed several bunnies and basically gave up after CovCath made that 3rd qtr run. Lets not forget the Birds came out and punched the Colonels in the mouth on their home floor outscoring them 14-8 in the 1st qtr. Credit the Colonel coaching staff for sitting a couple starters who were not performing and having some clutch play from their bench.

You know I am a CovCath fan, but easy game against Holmes/St. Henry for HHS? Holmes beat a very, very good Scott (Kenton County) team by 23 just a week or two ago, so HHS has a very tough game a head of them in playing either St. Henry or Holmes trust me on that one!

HHS is one of the better Frosh team, but I can tell you that I know one father whose son plays for HHS, who won't buy what your selling about Holmes/St. Henry being a easy game for HHS!

As has been stated on here so many times, everyone is entitled to their own's opinions, and that is the beauty (and some times curse) of a forum such as this. As I said, IMO I see Boone coming out of the lower bracket. Maybe it is as much hope as thinking as I really want to see Boone lose in the finals this year!

Holmes was Highlands' final game of the season 7 days ago. The Birds won by 3pts on some clutch FT's by Turner in the final 30 seconds. They may end up playing them again 2 weeks to the day. They were very good in the paint and had a chance to win the game from the FT line but missed 2 in a row. St. Henry got Highlands out at their place the 2nd game of the year on a buzzer beating 3pter made by Hils that gave them a 1 pt win.

No games will be easy in this tournament to be quite honest but if I had my druthers I would say that Highlands got a good position based on who they have already played and beaten.

What does Cov. Scott have in regards to players? Who have they beat etc..? I understand that they've got one of the better classes they've had in a while? Anyone got any insight?

If Scott plays like they have been playing of late, they will be done early in this tournament.

Why is Scott in this regional tournament? They just won the 37th District Freshman tournament and will represent that District in the 10th regional tournament. Also, Simon Kenton is not in the 9th region.

Do all NKY teams get invited to play in this tournament or does someone pick which team participate?

Scott this year was fortunate to get some of the better players from both Summit View and Woodland. Jackson, Pouncy, Jehn, Best are a few that come to mind. They have won some solid games this season. Holmes uncharacteristically blew them out by 23 though recently.
