Shelby Valley 46 Desales 37 (All "A" Finals)

Featured Replies

Shelby Valley repeats as All "A" State Champs.

Congrats to the Wildcats.

I think Justice did not show nearrly enough to be considered a candidiate for Mr. Basketball! Desales point guard kept him in check most of the day illustrating what has been stated by many other posters. He would not have near the success he's having against the athletes in the top regions in the state.

Yeah, he only won the MVP.... for the second straight year. Justice handles the ball 90% of the time for SV and I'm sure he may have been a little tired today. He was 1 of 8 from the field, with most of those misses coming on drives to the hoop and alot of that could be fatigue. He got around his defender most any time, but found his teammates for open shots. He had five assists for the game, and the Newsome's carried the offensive load in the 1st half. If you are looking for negatives you can find them, but the fact is that he came away with another MVP and All A state title...

Sorry! The fact is, against an average Louisville team he was held completely in check. I would assume he played better against the lesser quality teams in the earlier rounds to earn the MVP.

No disrespect to the kid, he is an excelllent player but IMO he's just NOT on the same level as Sewell, R. Johnson, and C. Jackson when you are talking about Mr. Basketball!

I was very impressed with Justice in this tournament. I watched their games against Desales, UHA, and Danville and he is definetly a good ball player.

I agree he isn't as good as the three above mentioned, but he could hold his own against the majority of the pg's around the state. His quickness makes him tough to defend. Jumper is a little streaky but he is very good at finding the open man and getting his teammates involved.

The only thing I'd say he needs to work on is he's very predictable when driving to the rim. He likes to use the spin move a lot and against bigger players that wouldn't work because they'd have the size and length to block those shots. He does have a great amount of strength though when finishing through contact.

The players who impressed me most though were the Newsome boys. They are a very nice 1-2 combo down low and have nice games at both ends of the floor.

It would have been interesting this year (and maybe last year, too) to see a Rose Hill-Shelby Valley meeting in Richmond and/or Lexington.

Congrats to the Wildcats bring it back home to the Mtns.

BTW, Valley's 2-1-2 zone was very effective today against Desales. They had trouble with it all day.

Desales defensive pressure also got to Valley though. I believe they had 9 or 10 turnovers for the game, compared to 3 against UHA.

I agree that Justice did not have a great game today. If you are basing your opinion on what he did today, then no he didn't put up Mr. Basketball numbers. But I can assure you he has played much better games against much better teams than DeSales...

:isurrender:

Sorry the 6th or 7th didnt win the tourney they may win the Sweet 16.

Congrats Justice on your second state championship and second MVP.

Congrats to SV, I watched a few minutes of it on TV today and both teams looked very good. I watched Desales beat Glasgow and was very impressed with Thornberry. He can shoot off the dribble better than a lot of HS players.

Can SV be an All A champ and State Champ in the same year?

Overall, not one of the stronger All A Classic fields ...

I now remember why I stopped coming to the HS basketball discussion..........a team from the 13-16th Regions get 0 respect...............

Who isn't giving Shelby Valley any respect? They were clearly the best team there.
