January 26, 201016 yr In Davis's defense he had no idea at the time that Calipari was going to be the coach, or that he was going to bring in the recruits he brought. He was basing it on what was coming back to UK at the time, and the possibility that Meeks and Patterson would be leaving.
January 26, 201016 yr Author In Davis's defense he had no idea at the time that Calipari was going to be the coach, or that he was going to bring in the recruits he brought. He was basing it on what was coming back to UK at the time, and the possibility that Meeks and Patterson would be leaving. But he also said, "just bringing in a new coach is not going to make Kentucky a top five team." When considering a coaching change, movement of recruits it likely going to be involved. Now the magnitude that happened when Cal was brought in is a little different than normal, but point being. That said, Dick Vitale just got a call: Meeks and Patterson are coming back.

There isn't a sane person who follows college basketball that would have thought UK would be a top 5 team this year at the time Davis made that statement. It's easy to 2nd guess now.

It's easy to 2nd guess now. Both Gottlieb and Katz talked about Kentucky getting Calipari and what kind of influence it would have on the recruits, and the likelihood Kentucky could be sitting well with their new talent.
January 26, 201016 yr Both Gottlieb and Katz talked about Kentucky getting Calipari and what kind of influence it would have on the recruits, and the likelihood Kentucky could be sitting well with their new talent. And was that before Davis made his statement? Didn't Davis's comments come on the day that Kentucky fired Gillispie? Wasn't Donovan rumored to be the top candidate when Gillispie was first fired?
January 26, 201016 yr Author And was that before Davis made his statement? Didn't Davis's comments come on the day that Kentucky fired Gillispie? Wasn't Donovan rumored to be the top candidate when Gillispie was first fired? Katz said that day that Calipari was one of the top choices, and the fallback was Ford. That's what the YouTube videos say, at least.
January 26, 201016 yr And was that before Davis made his statement? Didn't Davis's comments come on the day that Kentucky fired Gillispie? Wasn't Donovan rumored to be the top candidate when Gillispie was first fired? Pretty sure Billy Donovan was hired as the coach in '07 and again in '09. At least according to SSF.

January 26, 201016 yr So what if Davis made a mistake, who in the world would of thought ALL of his major recruits would've of followed himl. At this point, who even knew Cal would get the job at this point in time? Billy D was the first choice wasn't he? Just enjoy the great success of the season...
January 26, 201016 yr Author So what if Davis made a mistake, who in the world would of thought ALL of his major recruits would've of followed at Cal. At this point, who even knew Cal would get the job at this point in time? Just enjoy the great success of the season... I am enjoying it. I just thought it was interesting to point out. Of course, there were many people who may have thought this, but it just stood out whenever he said it on national tv.
January 26, 201016 yr Opinions, merely opinions. Good thing some of our opinions don't get posted on YOUTUBE. I guess we ALL would have to eat some crow! Now, wouldn't we?
January 27, 201016 yr Perfect timing for this thread. The season isn't over, and I believe Kentucky was exposed last night. They've used at least 5 of their 9 life's already this year, and last night they had no such luck. I'm going to say it now. Kentucky will not finish in the top 5 of the last poll of the year, and they won't even make it to the Elite 8. I hope they enjoyed that #1 ranking for a week because that's as close as they will get the rest of the way. It will be the same cycle every year. Calipari will have a great recruiting class, and have a good team, but will always far short of Cats fans expectations. He'll lose two or three to the pros, and start over again the next year. I hope you guys can live with that.
January 27, 201016 yr This is funny, I think he needs to get him a bite. I actually like Dick Vitale better after watching this, of course not that much though.
