Cards take two from Indians

The last time the two rivals played was Dec. 11, and Clark won by 13. Since then, the bulk of the Cardinals’ improvement has come on defense, Humphrey said. The coach said a lot of that has to do with Vinny Zollo’s intensity. Case and point: Through three quarters — when Zollo was pulled — he had 14 rebounds (10 on defense) and eight blocks, and he altered several other shots. At that point, Clark was up 62-20.

 

The Cardinals’ defense keyed off Zollo’s play underneath, and the Indians struggled hitting shots whether or not No. 25 was defending the shot, on the other side of the court or even in the game. The Indians shot 12-of-57 from the field, including 9.7 percent in the first half.

 

Zollo and Clark center Corey Rogers complemented the relentless defense with near-unstoppable presence inside. The two combined for 17-of-20 shooting. Only one of those shots was from outside the paint, a Zollo made 3-pointer.

Was a HUGE crowd there last night. Agree on our student section, they are great.:thumb: I will try and find the hightlight video which showes the huge crowd.

Tuff stretch during the Christmas tourney's. Coach stated that he saw things that need work on, but not much time to practice due to all the games. We have since then worked on them and the Cards have responded very well. Agree that GRC is the favorite. Now they just need to stay focused and take care of business.

 

Very tuff schedule coming up for the Cards. Fairdale, Ashland,

#2 Scott Co,#12 Lexington Catholic, Mason Co, #15 Lafayette, Cov Scott, Franklin Co and #3 Ballard.

Montgomery County definitely did not play their best basketball friday, but after seeing Clark County earlier in the season I definitely think they have taken big steps as a team.
