Because it's unfeeling and uncaring. They just want a better life after all. I mean what are a few silly laws when it stands in the way of a better life?

It's a totally different thing when you know some of these people personally.

 

What do we do with people that came to our country illegally at the age of 2, 3 and 5 and are now adults? They are US high school graduates and the oldest is a college graduate. Do we hold the fact that their parents brought them here illegally against them? It's not their fault.

 

The oldest, who married his high school sweetheart (a US citizen) and now has a mechanical engineering degree had to go through heck and high water (including returning to Mexico for months, a country that he hadn't been in since age 5...oh...and Juarez at that!) to obtain a green card to be able be here legally. You can't imagine the money (luckily his wife's family is very well off) and red tape that it took and he almost got rejected.

 

I've known this young man (and his brothers) for years. He deserves the chance to be an American citizen. It may still not happen, as the green card is just the first step. Don't anyone kid yourself that the average Mexican (who has not been to the US) can apply for citizenship without having an enormous amount of money - which they don't have, thus the desire to come to the US - and connections. I'm all for immigrants entering our country through the proper channels and being here legally. However, I also know that the chances of those channels working for your average Mexican are extremely slim.

So then they should just ignore our laws (and borders)?

Why does it have to be either A or B? Our immigration system needs to be rehauled and revamped. Had we allowed GWB (yes, you heard me right) to begin the process while he was in office with his immigration reform, we'd have funds coming in right now from those illegal immigrants. Instead, the very thought was repulsive to some. "We don't want them here at all. Put them on buses and send them back where they came from. And good riddance."

Again, what about the kids that didn't ignore anything? A 5 year old doesn't make the conscious choice to break an immigration law. Once he realized that he was here illegally, say at age 12 (?) should he just walk back across the border? Should he do that at age 18? When should he go or what should he do?

So, my family has to struggle to send my kids to college. We pay way to much for their health care. We pinch pennies every month to try and save a little. Yet my tax dollars can afford people that do not pay taxes, and could, all of those things? Sounds to me like you are being uncaring and unfeeling to the kids of Legal, tax paying US citizens.

 

I should not have to press 1 for english. If I moved to a foreign country would they make sure that I could use an ATM in MY language?

Everyone has sad stories. My family struggled, according to great grandparents, when they migrated to the US. The happiest day of their lives was when they took the othe to become citizens. Nobody made sure that things were multi lingual or that they received "free" rides to help them get on thier feet. They worked, legally and hard for everything they got. I am sure that if they were alive today, they would be appaulled by the "free" rides we afford illegal immigrants today.

In case my sarcasm was lost I don't agree with that statement thus the rolling eyes smilie. I was illustrating what those that believe illegals should just be allowed to enter as they like would use as a premise for their belief.

Yes they should pay some penalty and perhaps even be deported. It's not the fault of the laws rather the fault of their parents that brought them here. Come to think of it isn't using children in the comission of a crime a crime in and of itself? If so then that anotehr law the parents have just ignored.
