Anyone see who collected the split the pot at halftime of this very crowded game.......Yeah, that's right. paNDA! I like to think of it as a four win night.

 

Unfortunately it was my wife's ticket and that prize disappeared quicker than CCH's first half lead.

I was wrong about this one. I thought NCC would be able to slow down Covcath's inside game and force CCH to beat them from outside.

From the looks of the score in this one the defense wasn't the problem.

Very nice win for Cov Cath. They have improved immensly this season and have strong Frosh/JV teams. Coach L has to finally be excited about the talent he has coming up and the fact that the Varsity has the potential to beat many teams.

I agree with the observations about Alex Connelley. His defense of Pangallo was key to the victory. Pangallo is lightening fast and a very hard nosed player. He is fun to watch. Max Pauley played very strong at the PG position for the Colonels. Regarding the pregame prediction thread, in the words of the philosopher Arthur Fonzerelli, I was wr, wrr, wrr, wwrrrrong. Congratulations to both teams for a well played game.

The Covington Catholic boys’ basketball team that’s been struggling to keep its record above the .500 mark for much of the season upset Newport Central Catholic, 47-41, on Friday at CovCath.

 

The Colonels scored on six of their final seven offensive possessions to come away with the victory that lifted their record to 9-7.

 

“This team is coming on,” said CovCath coach Mike Listerman. “I know our record may not indicate it, but I think we just keep getting better and better. If we can continue to play like we did (Friday) we may have a say in this region before it’s all said and done.”

Sorry OldGuy, but there's a typo. Pauly had 10 if people can't do the math on shots made. If they can get 10 from Max, they'll win a lot of games.

The "1" was big, though, by Brett Riedinger.

Riedinger got "minutes" and not "seconds" in this game and he took one additional shot that he missed but he should have taken more! At least twice I thought he had a open look but passed the ball off.

Indeed if Max can get 8/10 points per game, CovCath will indeed win a lot more games!

He had 5 in the first half hitting that three at the buzzer to tie the game at 24 at half.

 

Correct. I wasn't clear. I meant his first 2nd half bucket wasn't scored until 50 seconds left. That 3 at the half was clutch.

He didnt play at all in the first half. NC went with a 1 3 1 and smothered Thelen inside due to no threat from the outside. Riedinger came in and put up 3 3s hitting one which gave them the lead. He opened up the D a little. He also did a nice job against the trap D. He'll get more PT.
