Indeed he did. He is also a solid catcher. Defensively, I think he and Hoskins are comparable. Both have cannons. The question with Jaran is how difficult it'll be for him to shake off 2 years of rust. I think he'll do it.

Yes, when he was 12. There was not a better hitter in NKY at his age from 9-13. A little bit of a tail off at 14 and then some struggles at 15. Part of it had to do with some personal issues he was dealing with and the other part is that he insisted on trying to pull every pitch thrown to him over the RF wall. When you start seeing 80 mph pitchers who mix speeds and pitches, work the outside part of the plate, and frequently get ahead in the count, taking a HR swing on every pitch was not particularly effective. But he knows that now, which is why I'm convinced he will be very successful this year. He has a ton of power - but sometimes the key is convincing kids with power that that does not entitle you to take a monster HR cut every time you swing.

Not to steer the thread off course as this player is a senior, but I'll give you a name to watch this year - Jaran Peace. He hasn't played the past two years due to personal issues, but he is an extremely strong kid with unbelieveable bat speed. I want to see the player in the 9th who has better bat speed than him. Now that being said, he has to get it through his head that he can't try to hit every pitch 400 feet over the RF fence, but if he can do that, he will end up hitting in the 4 hole and be the biggest single addition to Ryle's team this year. He's MY breakout player of the year.

No, he hasn't played the past two summers, nor has he played any in high school.

Klei could be at 2nd and Burney could be in leftfield. Or maybe Winters at 2nd.

 

Klei at 2nd with Burney in the OF is a possibility. Although I think you see Burney in CF and Stegner in LF at that point.

 

Don't know if Abeling has the bat to be the starting varisty 2B. Winters needs to add a little more bat speed than what he had last year to be in that position but maybe he has it.

I heard Hatton is going out for baseball this year. I know he played short stop previously in summer ball. I heard his infield abilities are pretty good. Is there a possibility he could be playing second base?

Thats what I heard people saying. And yes I think there is a big possibility he could be playing 2nd base. I dont see why not when Dixie doesnt really have a set and stone 2nd basemen yet.

These kids are going to be stuck indoors for weeks. Even those schools that have a turf football field on which to practice are going to have that advantage negated for the most part. Last I checked the weather predictions a week down the road called for unusually cold weather. This stuff just ain't gonna melt anytime soon. I'd like to have Al Gore come up to NKY and shove his face into a snowpile and show him that global warming isn't a real big issue up here.
