January 10, 201016 yr Author Still don't think that's going to fix his accuracy issues . . . . No, but it may enable some more play action. It'll also decrease the chances of a fumble. And hopefully Bratkowski will be fired and we'll open up the offense a bit.

January 10, 201016 yr No, but it may enable some more play action. It'll also decrease the chances of a fumble. And hopefully Bratkowski will be fired and we'll open up the offense a bit. Accuracy is his main problem now.
January 12, 201016 yr Might want to go ahead and open up that right elbow while there at it. Say what they want but anybody who has watched the Bengals during the Palmer era knows that his arm is not the same. No accuracy and zero deep ball threat.
January 12, 201016 yr Accuracy is his main problem now. Along with terribleness... Yeah he did miss some throws the other day, however his receivers never help him out either. Some people act like all the best QB's make perfect throws all the time. But just look at the games this weekend, and you will see that these other QB's had guys making great catches every where for them. If they threw it high they caught it, if they threw it behind the guy they caught it, guys were diving and catches passes, people were catching the ball even when they were about to get blasted. If those were Bengal receivers they don't make those catches. Receivers go along way in making QB's look good. Unless your Peyton Manning who might be the best of all time, he makes all receivers better apparently.

No one is asking Palmer to make perfect throws all of the time, but if he needs to make them a lot more frequently than he does and he makes them far, far less than the top QB's in the league. Granted he doesn't have the best set of WR's, but he shares plenty of blame for the Bengals' passing woes. And he also puts far too much pressure on his OL.
January 12, 201016 yr Put a fork in him and make him a backup. He has had a pretty decent career but the injuries have had a huge affect on his play. The knee injury has made him reluctant to plant the front foot which creates a lot of high passes. I think that has messed with his head also. The elbow injury has lessened the strength of his throwing arm. The thumb injury has probably hurt his play action abilities as well.

I just don't get that feeling he could ever win playoff games. He was the 16th rated passer in the league behind Orton,Flacco and Jason Campbell. In 07 he was 14th. Hopefully he can pull a Kurt Warner who was given up for dead a couple of times and is playing at a very high level now. On a side note check out Favre's stats 4202 yards 33 td's 7 picks 107.2 rating. Not bad for a 40 year old man and in my opinion his best all around season. Who ever heard of Sidney Rice or Shiancoe before this year?

I watched a couple of Washington's games this year and am fairly certain that half the QB's in NKY high school ball this season would be an improvement over Campbell.

Who ever heard of Sidney Rice or Shiancoe before this year? That is all there really is to say about these post. Is he as good as he was in 2005 no. Does he have around him what he had in 2005, not even close. Do they still run a pass first offense, and let him choose to plays at the line like in 2005, not at all. How many QB's have been elite QB's playing in a run first offense? Not many, if any at all. To say he should be a backup is ABSOLUTELY CRAZY. You all seriously must have forgot how bad we had it with QB's after Boomer first left and then retired. Its not easy to go out and get a dependable QB. We have one right now in Palmer, and put some better talent around him and he will do better. Yeah he is not as good as Manning, Brady, Favre or people like that. However shouldn't compare him to those guys because those guys will go down as some of the best QB's of all time. Palmer is a guy they can win with and have won with, and to say he should be a backup is crazy and shows very little football knowledge. Do you all honestly think the Bengals beat the Packers without Palmer this year, or the Steelers, or the Ravens? It took having Palmer to beat those teams. There is not much talent on this offense to work with, and Palmer probably did as best as he could do with what they had. Did have have some bad throws, definitely. Is he a guy they should give up on not at all. He is a guy they can win with, if they put the right people around him.

How does he put to much pressure on his OL? Its hard to get rid of the ball quick, when there is no one open to throw the ball too. I mean last season we had a mobile QB in Fitzpatrick, and well that didn't seem to really help out things either. It all comes down to receivers aren't that great, and the offense of philosophy is just horrible. Everything works together in football. If Receivers can't get open, the QB has to hold on to the ball longer, and if the QB holds on to the ball longer then it makes it harder to block. Palmer showed more mobility this year than any year in the past, and made plays out of the pocket. It really just comes down to not having receivers who can get open.

And I can think of quite a few games that it took Palmer for the Bengals to be able to lose. He's average - at best. Serviceable for now, but if he doesn't show substantial improvement in 2010, it is time to move on. The Bengals will never go to the next level with a QB like him. BTW, you're seriously gonna give yourself carpal tunnel if you don't learn a little brevity.
