You might think, this being a set up deal, that Butkis would just be showing up to make a pep talk, or stand on the sidelines with a clipboard, but he is really into it. You could see that it was just killing him.

AS long as the show doesn't make fun of the school, coaches, players and community, then it is what it is, an entertainment show.

 

Butkus had some very good comments and his speeches to the players, had a lot of valid points and catch phrases. I was surprisingly impressed with him at times.

I don't know, some are just never happy. Some have an agenda. Unfortunately, some with the agenda have a big audience around here and they take every opportunity to run him in the ground.

 

I think a lot of it stems from parents with a beef. You know, Little Tommy couldn't cut it or Young Bobby didn't get the playing time they thought he deserved, etc. Whiners. I guess you have them everywhere.

 

He may not be perfect, but I'd be proud to have my son play for Coach Haywood and I hope he stays here a long time.

I thought it was handled in a very respectful fashion. I thought they might have been between coaches. still, if it generates interest in a stagnant program, the regular coach could be a beneficiary in the long run.

Very true. I had decided to skip the series from my early opinion on it. But I may tune in anyway after reading some of the details on here.

I felt the same way. I remembered reading something about it in July and all I could remember was when he coached in the failed summer football league I believe and how that was, yuck.

 

I believe next week, a certain QB arrives to help out (I won't give any secrets away) and it looks to be much better, than I thought it would be initially.

I was disappointed that Butkus didn't show more fire. It appeared at times like it was gentle,old Grandpa Dickie out there. He sure didn't seem like one of the monsters of the midway.

I think he quickly realized he was a considerable amount short of talent and ability.

 

I think the article said 22-56, since 1996. Whew, tough to get enthusiastic for practice.

I agree. Fire helps teams, but there is a time and place or a coach is less effective. A coach has to understand what he is working with.

Anybody who knows me, knows I ain't afraid of anything. I would have loved to have played with or against him, and I wouldn't have cared if he got the better of me, ( which let's face it, he would have) :lol:
