Obviously the burning question is how bad the JUNIOR varsity team from CCH beat Cooper?

CCH was trailing by four just before half. I think they took the lead near the intermission and pulled away near the end. It was a close game all the way. It was a huge bench for CCH.

I think I see 3 Jr's in the pic, along with the 6 frosh and 5 sophs. So, I am so glad the 3 jr's could beat up on the cooper JV team filled with youngsters! :D

As stated, it was a close game all the way so I would think that should be good for both teams to help in player development. You seem to be too focused on winning and losing at this level.

paNDA - actually I am just adding some sarcasm to Clyde's comment that are really directed at the cooper fan who in the prediction thread - did not like Cov Cath playing Jr's on their JV team. Me - yea I like to win, but I certainly understand that building for varsity wins is what the goal of the program should be

Got it. I enjoyed the JV game as much as the varsity. It was a good contest and both teams came to play.

Why do you need 14 kids on the JV roster for any game?

Why not?

Frosh love to dress/play up and at least four or five frosh got minutes in the JV game. It's good for the team, the program and more importantly the kids and school to keep kids playing sports! Isn't that the real reason for High School sports, to get the students involved in the school activities, and to make them feel a part of something bigger in their lives!

Sure everybody loves to win, but that isn't the main concern and I have preached it time after time! The Frosh who played earned it, they had fun, CovCath still won, and they had a great learning experience. Seems a win, win situation, at least to me!

I agree but my only question is how does that make the 3 jr's on the team feel? Or maybe even the 5 sophs that they pass as they enter the game. Highlands does the same thing, they play 4 jrs on the JV along with 6 or 7 sophs and one 8th grader.

I would be more interested in seeing the frosh kids practicing with the JV rather than taking their playing time. I think the Frosh would develop better by playing against older kids in practice. When you have your first five practicing against your second five in a strict Frosh practice I personally dont think you get much out of that.

Does Cooper have an auxiliary gym or another practice gym?

Yes, they have a practice gym.

Quite frankly, if you saw the frosh game last night, you would understand that while the frosh were rewarded with some JV playing time last night, they truly don't belong at the next level yet.

This years frosh while they are good, are not (IMO) mature enough (meaning strong enough) to play up all the time yet! All of these kids sans maybe Bir and Shumate need to hit the weights to improve their strength. The one neat thing about frosh are that they all will grow bigger and stronger during this off season and with their skill level being quiet good already, they will be getting much, much better! They will be fun to watch next year!

In kind, some of the JV juniors saw more varsity action last night with Pauly and Connelly being out sick. It worked out nicely for everybody!

Yes, the strength increase is normally pretty significant from 9-10th grade if they hit it hard in the offseason. My son has grown 9 inches in the last 2 yrs and probably put on 20 lbs. I am hoping we can get another 3 or 4 inches in the next year or so and maybe 10-15lbs.

I loved seeing the freshman play JV - it was exciting and makes everyone (sophs and juniors) play harder. If the frosh know that there is a possibility to play up for a game you better believe they are going to play harder in their freshman game to prove to the coaches that they deserve to dress for JV. Playing up is a priveledge that needs to be earned. If a kid on either freshman team or JV team - practices hard all week, shows effort and leadership, they should be rewarded with having the ability to sit the bench at the next level. We all know that most of the time the younger kids aren't as strong and fast as the older kids and they usually can't compete at the intense level of those who play varsity regularly. But, if a kid knows if they work hard that he will be rewarded by sitting JV or Varsity - that means the world to them. Even if they don't get to play or only get in for a few minutes. It is special for them and they just might luck out and get in for a few minutes. It's a learning lesson. They always think they are good enough to play at the next level. When they get beat up the court, or lose a ball, they will soon realize that maybe they still need to work a little harder to get to the next level. Bottom line, having the ability to play up gives them something to work for and a little experience for when they are strong enough to indeed get some significant playing time at the next level. Congrats to the coaches for giving the kids who worked hard the opportunity to play up! I'm all for putting the best players at that moment on the court - whether that is freshman playing JV or JV player playing Varsity. The best players, at any given time should be playing.

Congrats to the Cov Cath dad who yelled during the game when the gym was silent "are you afraid to shoot". I'm sure he made his son proud. A Cov Cath parent was sitting by us and informed us that it was the kids dad. I said "really", I wouldn't have guessed.

I think that is the answer he was looking for.

To explain a little bit, the varsity was without the services of two players so some JV players did not play JV, only varsity and they brought up a few kids. Sorry for Cooper, but you are still the team that other teams bring kids up to play against. Coach Sullivan is a couple of years away, but he knows what he's doing; good coach.
