December 13, 200916 yr Cincy caught a good Vikings team at the wrong time. Vikings got worked last week, Peterson was due a good game, Cincy is banged up on D, etc. Cincy needs to get Peko back. Losing Crocker today could be a real bad thing, hopefully he makes it back before the playoffs. This team is without it's two best d lineman and it's two starting safties. Not to mention Chris Henry. Stay positive Bengal fans. If someone had told me 9-4 at this point in the season before the year started I would've laughed, and said where do I sign up. They are still one win or one Baltimore loss away from the North Championship. And, still have a great shot at the two seed. It will be decided next week in SD.
December 13, 200916 yr Defense played well. Other than that everything was horrible today. The offense is absolutely horrible and its a combination of everyone. The line can't pass block anymore, our receivers suck except for Chad, Palmer is to conservative, and well I think the biggest problem is just their offensive coordinator. They are so dang predicatable, and our route combinations suck. They don't confuse any defense, or get anyone open.

It has been all season too, aside from the fluke Chicago game. Palmer doesn't even look to throw it down the field. Ocho is the only receiving threat they have. That being said, the defense did play well, their back was against the wall all day.

The passing game showed signs of life in other games too. It did in the Packers game, Bears, first half against the Ravens and last two minutes of games to win them early in the year. There is one common thing with all those though, Chris Henry was on the field. I said it in the game thread after the game he got hurt, I was afraid that it would hurt the offense. People said it wouldn't hurt much at all, and well I think we are seeing it definitely has hurt this team. They really don't have good receivers besides Chad. With Henry they had a guy that was a deep threat, and teams usually had to put another safety over top of him to. Which opened up the middle of the field, and that is why Caldwell was doing better earlier in the year. Chris Henry getting hurt is the one injury that has hurt the team the most this year.
December 13, 200916 yr Well, this is disappointing but expected. Next week is the biggest game of the year.
December 13, 200916 yr Also I think the one of the reasons why we don't see Palmer taking chances anymore, is because of well one the play calls and two Lewis not wanting him to. Lewis when asked about this a few times this year, has said teams aren't allowing them to throw deep. So he just wants Palmer to take what they give him. If you let Palmer open things up, then this whole team would be better. Its good to have a running game, but they have to remember what made them successful on offense 4 years ago. If we can find away to even be half as good as the offense use to be, then this team would be even better since we have a defense now.
December 13, 200916 yr Well, this is disappointing but expected. Next week is the biggest game of the year. Why do you say but expected? I didn't realize a first place team was expected to lose, just because they were playing on the road at another first place team. Minnesota is good, but they are not so great where the Bengals couldn't beat them. I know I liked the Bengals chances going into this game, there is no reason why they couldn't have won this game. However they killed themselves though.

However they killed themselves though. Umm, let's see. It's expected because Cincinnati hasn't played well lately. Minnesota lost last week and I couldn't see them losing twice in a row. Cincinnati is banged up on defense & Peterson is the best back in the NFL. Minnesota got Winfield back this week. Without Henry, our passing game has really struggled. The addition of Winfield to the secondary was only going to make passing more difficult. Cincinnati was on the road. It's tough to win on the road, particularly against good teams. Minnesota was at home. Good teams win at home. Vegas had Minnesota favored by 7. Shall I continue to state the obvious or will you accept the fact that the Vikings winning was expected?

December 13, 200916 yr I felt like Cincy would lose this game and get exposed a little by the best team in football IMO. Once you get in the playoffs anything can happen so I think Cincy still has a chance. I think Minn, NO, Indy and Philly are the best 4 teams in football. To me if I had to take one it would be Minn. They can stop the run better than anybody. They have the best back in football (C. Johnson could make an argument). They have speed on the outside, nice Oline and nice TE. Winfield healthy gives them the best tackling corner in the league. Allen gives them the ability to rush the pass. Favre...that guys pretty good lol. They are the most complete team in the league IMO especially at home in the dome. There are several teams like Cincy, GB, Balt, SD, Dallas that could upset some people but I think those 4 are the best.
December 13, 200916 yr 94 yards passing for Palmer. And now we go to the dreaded West Coast against a team who can pass.

So basically when two good teams play against each other, it is expected that the Home team should win right? And would only be a surprise if the road team wins? That is basically what you are saying, and I don't agree with it. Yeah Minnesota was favorite to win like they should be, but you make it sound like it would have been a big surprise if the Bengals won, which it wouldn't have been IMO. Based on your thinking, I guess you only think the Bengals win won more game the rest of the year, since they only have one more home game and the other two are on the road against good teams.
December 13, 200916 yr 94 yards passing for Palmer. And now we go to the dreaded West Coast against a team who can pass. I have a lot of trust in our pass defense. However if our offense sucks again next week, then it won't matter how well the defense plays. You can't expect even a great defense to stop good offenses, if you are on the field all day. The Bengals have to figure out something on offense and in a hurry. I say they play Jerome Simpson instead of Purify. Give the guy a shot, maybe when the lights are on he does step up his game unlike in practice apparently. They need to do something to jump start this offense.

That's not even close to what he was saying. Most people expected Minnesota to win, he gave a pretty accurate list of why...
