I have been to 3 girls High School games and over 40 fouls called in each game. One game had over 50 fouls. Why so many?? It is getting out of hand!

I suggest speaking to the coaches of the teams that played these games. Maybe you could give them some help in teaching proper defensive play.

My guess would be to get calls correct

Great response!

Actually saw that called in a girls game tonight. And got to be honest with you...it didn't look like anything different than what I've seen hundreds (thousands?) of times before.

Most everyone would hope for consistancy.

From the 2009-10 NFHS Basketball Points of Emphasis for Referees:

1. Travelling

2. Closely Guarded

3. Three Seconds

4. Block / Charge

5. Free Throw Administration

From the NFHSBasketball 2009-10 Points of Emphasis for Referees:

"Travelling. The travelling rule has not changed; however, the comitee is still concerned that the rule is not being properly enforced. Consequently, offensive players are gaining a tremendous advantage. Areas of specific concern are: the spin move, the step-through move, the jump stop, perimeter shooters taking an extra "hop" prior to releasing the try and ball handlers lifting the pivot foot prior to releasing the ball for the dribble...."

If you need any other information, it is available at KHSAA.org.:walk::walk:

What is the problem with 40 fouls? :idunno: 40 fouls just puts each team in the Double Bonus each half. 50 is a lot, but in a close game you'll get that easy as one team tries to stop the clock.

I've noticed a move away from fundamental defense in the last three years. As this occurs, get ready to see foul counts increase. Especially when a defender faces a more athletic opponent.

let me tell you what is getting out of hand. It is the way the game is being played now a days. It is ugly at the high school level. Nobody knows how to play defense anymore. If players would play defense and keep their hands off the offense then fouls would decrease. Play is getting too rough. And it is because of the refs-- allowing the game to be played like football.

Most everyone would hope for consistancy.

Straight to the point. That is the key, calling it the same.

So hoopit, if you, Mr. AThletics, and I are calling a game together and I miss an obvious walk on one end, are you guys going to let one go uncalled on the other end?

Yeah that is it, it's the officials!
