That is not the same boat at all. One of those teams gets left out as opposed to all of them.

I don't see any reason to believe every game wouldn't matter if some form a playoff were put in place. The season would be short enough, playoff spots exclusive, and there would be an extreme advantage for higher seeds that would make every game as valuable as they are now. Teams aren't going to take games off or play with any less heart.

 

Personally, I would prefer to see a playoff of 8 teams rather than 16.

When Georgia Tech loses to Georgia and in the next two weeks begin to play for the national championship, than the regular season games are devalued.

Not really, they would get 2-3 games more to play and THEN get a chance to play for the title.

 

And who they play and where they play would be determined by the same system that everyone is decrying as flawed.

 

Who is to say that TCU isn't the #1 team and get the #1 seed and the easier route to a semifinal game than making them a 4 seed a harder route.

 

This is a year that the BCS system barring any losses by Boise State, TCU or UC is going to be extremely flawed.

Either way, there would be a very limited debate of who the best team was if they made it through the playoff. Now we still have to wonder or hope a team as dominant of Florida runs through all opponents and leaves no doubt.

No way they are devalued. Ignoring the fact that it's a huge rivalry, the hallmark of college football, G Tech would still be in the hunt for a better seed to give themselves a chance.

I wish basketball had just conference winners make the tournament. I think it would make it BETTER in determining who actually is the best team of the season.

 

I think the key would be to force the top quality teams to have to play more games versus teams like Boise State and TCU. No games can be counted that are not BCS schools. Less games on the schedule against teams like a Northeast Southern Valley State type of school.

Still involves rankings. I want the so called "experts" out of it, as much as possible.

 

As stated in another thread, I prefer forcing the 120 FBS schools into 10 12 team conferences. Each conference would have a conference championship and the conference champions would be seeded in to a 4 week tournament for the national championship. The only rankings would be of the conference champions to seed the tournament, but in the end, everything is settled on the field.

One of the BIGGEST flaws in the BCS rankings is that the polls are set before the season ever begins. These preseason polls mess with the rankings as the season progresses, because a team that starts high is going to stay high even despite a single loss for the most part while lesser teams have a harder time making their way to the top because of where they started.

 

Swamp's suggestion has strong merit as rewarding what is possibly the BEST team for the season.

 

Use the lesser bowls for the non-conference winners. Like the NIT.

No, I'm saying that on a given year a team could be upset in the conference championship game and still make the National Championship game. See Oklahoma 2003, who lost the conference championship game and still played in the 2004 National Championship against LSU.

 

The BCS is a computer poll. Are you telling me that you prefer this than the NCAA Basketball tournament? Would you rather just have the National Championship game decided by computer ratings? Isn't the point of the tournament to see who is the best team through a series of battles, not lucky one day? The best team is the team w/ the depth to compete against other top teams and advance to the next round. That is why people say that TCU and Boise St. don't deserve to be in the bogus championship game, b/c week in and week out they don't play the best competition.

They still had to win 5 games to get there, so they deserved to be there. Better than a two loss LSU getting to the National Championship game b/c of computers, or Texas missing out last year b/c of some stupid conference tie-break system.
