Police Say Census Worker Killed Himself

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Nov. 24) -- Authorities are saying a Kentucky census worker found hanging from a tree with "fed" scrawled on his chest committed suicide and staged his death to look like a homicide....

For months this implanted a very negative thought of eastern Kentucky in my brain. The "fact" a person or persons would do such a harmful thing to another person. I am sure this gave the state of Kentucky a black eye to the nation as it made national headlines.

A very selfish act...

Seems too convenient an explanation. So this guy choked himself to death? How did he manage to hold on to the rope long enough to kill himself? How did he not pass out first?

I just find this a stretch. Just because there is a lack of evidence does not mean that it had to have been suicide.

Something doesn't sound right. Not to mention (according to other articles I've read) that the guy never showed any signs of depression or any signs that he was potentially going to commit suicide.

What benefit is it for investigators to lie here? Right away they didn't rule out suicide. Something obviously didn't seem right to them or they would have said they thought it was a homicide a lot earlier.

The glasses being taped to his face seems to me to be something only he would have done.

Not saying that they're lying. It just seems to me they couldn't come up with any better explanation, so they're assuming it was suicide.

Well, it allows them to close the books on an investigation where it has probably been like pulling teeth getting potential witnesses to cooperate.

FOX 56 report showed a police officer who said the deceased had taken out a $600,000 life insurance policy that wouldn't pay if the death was by suicide. They think he did it so the insurance would pay. The report didn't offer much details to how he staged it or how they knew it, though. Still sounds like a lot of unanswered questions in the case.

From what I heard, take it or leave it: The man had a big time life insurance policy and figured his son would be awarded it if he died, so he committed suicide and faked his death, unfortunatley, they found out he faked it, so the son is in trouble. How horrible is that?

Why would they do that though? There are millions of unsolved cases in this country. It makes more sense that he did it himself. From day one they were reluctant to call this a murder. His son was the one going around trying to get people to believe it was a murder. We find out now that he stood to make a huge chunk of money if it wasn't suicide. The dots are connecting.

I have read the articles regarding this case... I agree something doesn't make a whole lot of sense here... I realize the $600K life insurance policy recently taken out, but did the father take out the policy or the adopted son? Hmmm!

The FBI and State Police invested a lot of time, resources and money into this case... I am sure there are facts that are yet to surface.

There may be millions of unsolved cases in this country, but I doubt there are too many that are as high profile as this one. That alone was reason enough to try to find a quick resolution.

Saw on WKYT that one of the investigators said he had informed a very close friend that he was planning to kill himself.

I should hope not or every investigator should be fired.
