Oldham County hosts Jtown in a Class 5A round 2 playoff game this Friday at Buckner's Bell Field.

 

Both teams are 7-4; Oldham defeated Jeffersontown, 36-14, at Bell Field on 10/9/09. The Colonels had 327 rushing yards in that game while holding Jtown to less than 150 yards of total offense.

 

In that game, Oldham bolted to an early 14-0 lead...After Jtown went 3 and out on their first possession, Oldham capped a long drive off with a score. Then, on the first play from scrimmage on Jtown's next possession, the Colonels got an interception and ran it back for a TD... The Chargers never recovered.

 

Who wins this game and why??? Winner likely gets region favorite John Hardin (who plays Doss in the other region semi-final game) in the region championship game. Oldham County lost to JH in last year's region final and would love a re-match...

 

Oldham had a relatively easy 34-9 win over Waggener last week, and undoubtedly rested some regulars. Kirk Yepko rushed for 143 yards and 1 score; Oldham County rushed for 300 yards as a team and held Waggener to 159 total yards for the game...

 

Jtown had a stunningly easy 63-14 win over Bullitt Central. QB Joey Pierce was 9 of 16 passing for 153 yards and 4 TDs (no picks) and DeMichael Jackson rushed for 138 yards and 2 scores (Jtown rushed for 257 as a team).

You are correct. I was typing too fast, wanting to mention that Oldham lost to John Hardin last year, that this year they might meet in the region final, etc., etc., and I typed it all out wrong...

 

John Hardin beat Doss in the regional final last season.

Two entirely different styles of football. Oldham is a power football type, whereas J-Town is more speed oriented. Both teams will field some very athletic players. J-town will rely on the big play, OC is more about ball control and wearing you down. I don't see the Chargers getting the big play vs. a very disciplined OC squad. OC wins this one 30-7

I enjoy checking the rankings as much as any body, but it seems kind of wierd to have teams that have already been beaten ranked above teams that are still in the playoffs. In most cases anyway.

But with power rankings, the computer is taking in all of the information from 11 games, not just one. A "people" (in theory) wouldn't have that situation.

I worry about Oldham County on offense. The Colonels average 24 points per game, but if you take away three wins against really bad teams (Waggener x 2, and South Oldham) they are only averaging 18.5 points per game. That might not be enough to beat Jeffersontown.

True...but some thoughts....since Chase Hamby became QB after the Scott County game, and the current offensive lineup became pretty much set... they put 42 on the board against South... they hung 36 on Jeffersontown the last time they played... 7 points against Grant County was on a field that was so muddy and torn up nobody could get traction on it...10 points vs. Anderson County were against a top 10 team with the district title on the line... 13 points vs. Shelby was against a top 10 6A team, and Oldham County rested several regulars for the playoffs to get some subs more playing time and to avoid any unnecessary injuries... then 34 points vs. Waggener.

 

I don't think their offense is really looking that bad, really.

 

Oldham coach Matt Brown simply does not run up the score. Oldham could have undoubtedly scored more points against South and Waggener, and perhaps against Jtown in the first meeting.

 

The Oldham offense is not their strong suit - defense is - but I think the Colonels will do fine offensively...
