As I get older and think about the ridiculous flaws in the legal process, or attorneys deliberately withholding evidence that would exonerate someone so they can win the case I am more inclined to switch to life in prison with no chance of parole. Although for the most heinous of acts I would be willing to go for a life of solitary confinement.

It just shows how insane our society is that we want to make sure someone is put to death "humanely". Just shoot them and get it over with.

 

The reason the guy in this article has out-lived the 3 judges, etc. is because he has everything taken care of. No house payment to worry about, 3 square meals, and all the comforts our current prisons afford. It makes me sick that these criminals live better than a LOT of the hard working people in our state.

It obviously doesn't function as a deterrent; only as a means for people to feel better about themselves in getting revenge against those among us who engage in the most heinous of crimes against society. Is it worth the time and trouble -- and ineffectiveness -- for the state to engage in punitive action of this nature?

As it stands today it probalby does need to be abandoned. But I would be for reforming and keeping it.

No it is not worth it. Like you said, it does not function at all as a deterrent. The death penalty in the United States as a whole doesn't function as a deterrent. Add to that how expensive it is to accomplish, it's not worth it at all.

Why? You're a dollars and cents guy. Why waste this much money on something such as this when the penalty never gets carried out? From a fiscal conservative standpoint, I would think the death penalty in its current form would fly in the face of all logic.

Either way, allowing a woman to choose and letting the government murder is not the same thing.

I'm also a very big eye for an eye guy when it comes to crime. Would I like the death penalty to be reformed so it is more cost effective? Absolutely, but I'd rather have it like it is, then not have it at all.

 

I also think we are way too humane with how the executions are carried out.

2) Why doesn't the government get to choose what to do with criminals, but women get to choose what to do with innocent babies?
