Yes, Belfry scored every time they had the ball in the first half, but they only had it three times.

 

Lewis Co was very capable and they had a lot of heart. I really enjoyed watching them play as they kept fighting and never gave up. The QB was a gamer, as was the WR #2. Belfry ended up being a little too much for the Lions, but it was a game for a half.

 

Lewis Co threw an interception on the first play of the game and Belfry then put together a scoring drive to go up 7-0.

 

Lewis Co then had to punt on their next possession, but Belfry bobbled the punt and gave Lewis Co the ball on about the 25 yd line. Lewis put together a nice drive, the QB really making something out of nothing a couple of times and then made the 2pt conversion to go up 8-7.

 

Belfry scored next on their possession for a 14-8 lead.

 

Then came Lewis' best series of the night. They had a good long established drive. The QB was a real scrappy player and he never gave up. He completed a couple of passes that were unbelievable. Very nice player and he was the offense tonight for Lewis. They ran off a lot of clock and scored but the conversion was no good. That tied it up at 14.

 

Belfry drove the ball into Lewis territory and then fumbled. Lewis ended up then throwing an interception and Belfry completed a nice pass to Tim Lovern to go up 21-14 at the half.

 

The third quaterter belonged to the Pirates as they blew open the game.

 

All in all it was a competitive game and I'm surprised Lewis Co was a 4 seed. I talked to several fans from Lewis and they were a pleasure and represented the Lions well. They brought a nice crowd and they were very into the game. I was impressed with them.

I'd guess BOTH. A team can never have too many good coaches, as long as they can work together.

Did Varney play?

This is a good way to start building up the program for the Lions. A playoff appearance is always a positive start, and hopefully it will encourage more kids to come out for football.

Look, Coach Prater is great. He's a great man and a great football mind. I don't care much for people trying to say that he's the only reason Lewis had any success this year. Coaches can only do so much. The chemistry that these kids have and their refusal to be intimidated by anyone was what made the difference. Sure the coaching staff did a great job, but it's the guys that wear the pads that make or break the team. Coach Hughes has a lot to do with that. The kids believe in him and in Coach Prater and in the entire coaching staff, and in the mindset that we're turning things around at Lewis County. No one man can take credit for this season. This is a team sport!

I agree, it was a great game, great kids, awesome fans, great coaching, the QB was tuff to stop!!! Overall Lewis Co is a definate class act, keep up the good work and good things will come.
