October 28, 200916 yr Allow me to dissent from the popular opinion. IMO its easy for most of us to say the "others" are being "too sensitive" having never walked in their shoes. We can all think of examples of stereotypes that are often joked about but are not funny to those of the race or ethnic group being mocked. I would fully expect any credible organization to take action against one of their front men who made such a reference. People are way too sensitive.

I mean the nerve to use such a reference to Italians.... The example given proves that it takes thought to figure out what's acceptable and what's not and that there is no clear-cut rule. In regards to this example, I'd say its not a problem because history doesn't show that people have used "pasta" in a derisive manner towards Italians. In Griese's case, I must admit that I have no clue whether the "taco" line is insulting to Latinos. Therefore, I would not have gone there. Why take the chance? However, some races and ethnic groups have had particular food items used to put them down. It doesn't take much recollection to come up an prime example. That makes sense, doesn't it?
October 28, 200916 yr Author This doesn't even compare to Fuzzy Zoeller's comments about Tiger and BTW I love fried chicken and collard greens, . Perfect example of how you can't make a blanket statement that people are too sensitive or that people can't be insulted by a food reference. Fuzzy wasn't using those food items in any other manner than as an insult/joke. Those items have been an insult to blacks throughout a great portion of US history.
October 28, 200916 yr Pitino and Vital are friends and know eachother. I do not know if he still does but I also thought Pitino owned an Itilian resturant. Now if Vital had made a comment about Pitino and a horse head or some type of mob stereotype then it might be a little different.

I would imagine Latinos not from Mexico or with no Mexican heritage would take offense, if they don't already for being stereotyped. Montoya is also Colombian. I don't think it was an acceptable thing to say.
