Reds and Rolen

8-2 is my guess?

By posting this, are you saying you think the Reds would actually play to that record if Rolen plays an entire season??

Obviously, Rolen remaining healthy for an entire year is extremely wishful thinking. But having him on the roster the whole season figures to be a positive influence on the club that I think will translate into a much better record (although not likely to be 100 wins).

Come on. A club that hasn't had a winning season in a decade, and all of a sudden they aren't likely to win a 100? Why don't we wait until they win 85 before we even talk about 90, then 90 before entertain 95. What is it with fans around here that think these teams will magically turn into winning organizations that will vie for playoff spots. It's unbelievable the unrealistic expectaions expressed on this board. Do you all expect to walk out your door every morinig and just find a million dollars?

Thats what FANS do... keep the faith and think this is our year. I don't see many people wearing there teams colors saying well, we'll probably get swept this weekend.

I may not walk out the door hoping to find a million dollars. If I buy a lottery ticket its because I think I have a chance. So I check the numbers to see if I won. May not be millions but it could be $7 or $3. Maybe I'm more of the glass is half full than half empty sort of guy.

All I said was I think having him on the team all year long next year will result in improvement. Show me where I said they would be winning the WS.l

Thats fine. I understand that. But, why can we not have realistic intelligent conversation about the clubs that we follow? This talk about winning seasons and playoffs are just absurd. How about talk about what we think they need to do to get there, instead of just throwing out absurd wishes and hopes? How about we discuss Rolen and realisrically what he brings to the table. How about taliking about whos playing SS, or Catcher next year. Do we think Drew Stubbs is a mainstay in center for the next 10 years. There's all kinds of topics that we can have intelligent discussion about. Or we can just say gee, I think they can have a winning season and compete for a playoff spot next year. Gee I really have no substance to base my belief, other than I am an optimisitic fan who hopes they can do it.

you threw out 100 wins. Even mentioning that number as a distant possibilty is telling.

As I said, wishful thinking. Remember the Beach Boys song, "Wouldn't It Be Nice?" :D

Maybe he was including spring training :D

Reds are 72-81 so far. Playing with good chemistry right now. Plus they haven't had there 17 game winner at all (Volquez) Votto had some issues, Jay Bruce missed alot of time. Harang missed the last 6 weeks. Here is the way I see it with a couple of question marks.

1B- Votto

2B- Phillips

SS- ? Janish is a big league defender but his stick ???

3B-Rolen (can he stay healthy)

LF- Gomes (has earned a shot)

CF- ? Stubbs, I'm not a believer yet !

RF- Bruce ( 22 years old I believe)

C- I think they sign Hernandez for around 4 to 5 million (only 280 AB's)

P- is a strength. Harang, Arroyo, Cueto, Bailey, Owings, Masset, Herrera, Rhodes, Cordero, Viola ?, Ramirez ?, Burton ?

We robbed Louisville all year long but they kept on winning so I'm leaving off some talented YOUNG players. IMO there ought to be a lot of optimism on behalf of the Reds. Dusty has one year to put up or shut up. I trust Walt ! :thumb:

Does that mean my tickets for next Wednesday and Friday are useless?

Well, lll take the tickets if you are putting them on the dollar menu.
