One thing that jumped out at me is that Boone , despite having lost 3 games and behind well behind in those games, has only passed 50 times.

It is astonishing that there has been zero SACKS?

The challenge with any high school sports stats is that they are so subjective and usually performed by a high school kid. Zero sacks tells me that they are simply being recorded as tackles. Its one more example of why you have to actually watch kids play in order to determine how well they play.

Love to see how Zach Sowder is getting some recognition from this. He is doing all he can to win the football for Scott on both offense, defense, and special teams. I for one hope he is able to win the rushing title this year...

Very true. Tackles are very subjective also. Seems like if you jump on the pile it's counted as a tackle at some schools.

A lot of schools also don't differentiate between a solo tackle and an assist (worth .5 tackles). All tackles are not created equal. :D

Sometimes when I read the stats from a game I have to laugh. For many years I kept the stats for a High School here in NKY. I'm good at math. I would have a player rushing for 100 yards. The next day in the paper he would be down for 180. Happens a lot.

Or if your buddy is the stat guy....

I am the stat guy at Holy Cross. It is very difficult to chart everything about the offensive play and keep defensive stats in the time between plays. If the offense is spread or "2 minute", that makes it even more interesting. Also, high school line judges tend to be very slow in marking the line of scrimmage, which, as stat guys know, is key to determining yardage and down and distance. I rely on very good spotters to determine the players involved and LOS. This year, we are using a stat program for the first time. I enter the stats on an old Palm and sync the stats to a laptop at half time and post game. I have a printer to produce halftime stats for the coaches and reports for the TV stations and newspapers afterwards. However, we do our tackles later by looking at the film. I would like to think the Holy Cross stats are more accurate than what you might see for a reporter keeping his or her own stats at a game.

Were I was we had one stats person in the both with a laptop also printing stats for half time and end of game. There is also someone on the side line writing all calls so coaches can make adjustments to the game after every drive.
