The Royals come out cold, but finish strong.

Another good win for Mason County. Congratulations to the Royals.

Montgomery County shoved the ball down the Royals' throat for much of the first half, but Mason scored a TD on a pretty pass from Pawsat to Lang late in the half. Gilbert runs the 3rd quarter kickoff back 85 yards for a score, Josh Harris returns a fumble 45 yards for another score (had a 99-yarder last week).

 

Harris 12 rushes for 141 yards and a TD, Pawsat 9-14 for 160 or 170, a passing TD and a rushing TD. Montgomery's QB (Dotson?) and RB #24 (Murphy) had nice games.

 

Time of possession dominated by the Indians, over 30 minutes. Royals need to shore up the run defense, and maybe not read their press clippings so closely.

And for those that were sitting close towards the end of the game, I have just one word.

Mason County wasn't dominant by any stretch, just seemed to wear the Indians down with depth on the lines, and made more really big plays.

Royals do have to shore up the run defense because their next opponent(BC) looks to run and run quite well and I do like Coach Poynter, but Coach B does have 2 weeks to prepare and results should be along last night's. The Royals just have too much fire power and athleticism at skill positions to overcome their defensive shortcomings. Plus when TO's are always in your favor, it just adds to the scoreboard

Indians beat them everywhere except where it counts. Indians let them have the second half KO returned for a TD. Then let then scoop and score on a backfield fumle. Indians had 2 TD passes dropped in the endzone on the last drive of the game and did not score in the first half on a fumble inside the 10.

 

It was 7-7- at the half. Should have been 14-7 at worst....Indians let them get a long pass off just before the half.

Totally agree, though the Royals are extremly talented and skilled, they have also been extremely lucky so far. Danville and MC virtually give the Royals points with TO's on top of To's. Here is a memo for future Royals opponents: DO NOT KICK or PUNT the ball to Jordan Gilbert or Josh Harris, you have got to control their touches on offense. Let Pawsat try and beat you with a short passing game, but guard against the big play. Gilbert very underated on this team, kind of flies under the radar, but is a back breaker. Look for the Bourbon County game in two weeks to be a carbon copy of this game if the above things happen. BC will get their rushing yards and time control

True. I stated before the season started that Mason Co. has more size, strength and talent on the line than many people realize. Coach B rotated offensive linemen in and out on offense. Having a couple of big, fresh lineman on the goal line stands made a big difference.

I always hate it when someone says that. MC has a quiver full of offensive weapons plus their return team. The team that wins is usually the one that makes the fewest mistakes. Not just turnovers, but blown coverage or such. Sooner or later, MC makes you pay for your mistakes.

 

I've been watching Gilbert play since 4th or 5th grade. He showed some speed on that return that even I didn't know he had. Harris is simply a superb athlete. You can tell he's a coach's son as he knows what to do in every situation and rarely makes a mistake.

 

Montgomery played hard and never quit. They gave us quite a scare the first half. My hat's off to them and I wish them the best of luck the rest of the season.

I'd say there is hangover this morning in Maysville.

 

Like I said earlier, Indians pounded them...that is a fact. Royals got points, another fact and the one that counts.
