That is the problem. If I believe in religion A, and my wife believe's in relgion B, how are we ever going to decide what is best for our kids except to "drink the Kool-Aid."

I'm dating a non-Catholic right now. It's OK. Sometimes it irks me, but my last girlfriend was a non-practicing Catholic, so I just deal with it.

On marriage, I could marry a non-Catholic but with the understanding that my kids have to be raised Catholic. My dad married my mom when she was Jewish (she converted to Catholicism about 6 years ago) so I guess it is workable.

 

Not even married but you are already planning on telling your wife what to do?

They should be allowed, but most parents won't feel that way IMO.

There was a girl I was crazy about and was crazy about me. We never ended up dating and this was the biggest reason why IMO along with her not wanting kids.

Let me first state that, as a non-parent, I won't begin to pretend to understand what parenting is like. That being said, my thoughts:

I wouldn't disown my kid for renouncing Catholicism. However, this world and our society will shove their belief systems- materialism and consumerism- down the throats of kids. If I believe that the Catholic Church was created by Christ, and that through that faith we reach eternal salvation, then I find nothing wrong with raising my children in the faith. Is it wrong to teach what I believe is right, yet acceptable for society to teach that our own immediate happiness is of the utmost importance? Members of society in general, and my own children, will have the right to their own decision, but I will do everything I can to lead them to the right decision.

I wouldn't marry someone before discussing this beforehand, obviously. You may find it petty but for me it is a dealbreaker.

Yeh that was the deal breaker for me too. The religion was tough when thinkng about having kids down the road...it didn't bother me but thought it would be tough on kids. When I found out she didn't want them it sealed the deal. Awesome girl though. She has gone on and done a lot of great things with her life. We remained friends. I've got two beautiful babies now:D

Isn't that what we do? Gather information about different beliefs/faiths from different places and perspectives and make up our own minds about who to follow.

I think God clearly gives each parent the responsibility to raise their children in the admonition of the Lord. My challenge to everyone reading this post, is to read the Bible and study it. Does what you are practicing religiously square with God's word, Or do you just go to your place of worship and rely on what someone else tells you is correct, its very easy to do.

I still agree that it is somewhat paradoxial but a lot of the same questions/issues are still there with me and in some cases even much more so.

Simple: Don't be yoked

Forget this religion stuff... the real question should be: dating outside your species - for or against?
