Nice way to start the season for Southwestern. Next week is Harlan Co. at the Ray Correll Bowl.

The SW D did play well.. They kept us in the game until the youngsters on offense settled down... Holding WC to a field goal after the second turnover was huge.. If WC goes up 14 to 0 might have been a different game...

Anybody know who was the Offensive Player of the Game? I know that Central's Cortez Barber was the pick for defense.

 

In the first qtr, Barber ran back an interception 90 yards for a score, and the distance was a new bowl record! Sergio Beltran-Sosa booted the PAT, and Central led 7-0 as time ran out on the qtr.

 

In the second qtr, Beltran-Sosa hit on a FG from 37 yards with 9:44 left in the first half, and that's how it ended, with the Dragons leading 10-0.

 

It was almost all Warriors after that. With 8:37 left in the third, Dustin Powell scored on a one-yd dive. The pass failed, and Central's lead was cut to 10-6. Southwestern took the lead permanently with 1:10 left in the third qtr when Taylor Mote scored on a four-yd run. Zack Turpin's pass to Alex Jones nailed the conversion, and Southwestern led 14-10.

 

The fourth qtr was when SHS's superior conditioning showed through. Johnathon Floyd ran 22 yards for the score at 8:02. The pass failed, but Southwestern led 20-10. Floyd scored again, on an 11-yd run at 4:26. The pass failed again, but SHS led 26-10. Central cut into the lead with an excellent run by Barber for 43 yards. Troy Halcomb's pass to Denzell Carpenter was good for two, and SHS led 26-18 with 3:49 left. Mote put the final nail into the lid of the coffin with his 17-yd run with 1:57 left. The pass failed again, but SHS had bagged the win 32-18.

 

 

Warren Central's next game will be a big test at The Shadetree as Central makes its first appearance in the Franklin-Simpson Pigskin Classic against a Russellville team that almost got Big Blue's goat Friday night before bowing 28-27! The game is Saturday.

 

SHS (and Coach Anderson) is only four wins shy of 100 wins in program history!:thumb:

Nice win for Southwestern. Great job to come back from a 10-0 halftime deficit to put up 32 in the second half. From reading PH's recap it sounds like SW went for 2 an awful lot. Do they not have a kicker this season or are they dealing with an injury? That could be a big problem in close games. Good luck next week against Harlan County.
