August 22, 200917 yr I know there are at least a few of us on this board that watch soccer, so hopefully we can get some conversation going. Today is ESPN's first day of English Premier League coverage in the US. Pity the game wasn't better and I turned to FSC's match as soon as the second half started. Just finished watching that Manchester City - Wolves match. Absolutely fantastic. A couple more interesting ones on today featuring US international players. Oguchi Onyewu and AC Milan are live on FSC at 2 p.m. and hopefully Jozy Altidore will see more action than last week; Hull plays Bolton on replay at 5 on Fox Soccer.
August 22, 200917 yr I gotta say, I love waking up on Saturday morning and watching soccer. It seems like the pace of the game really eases my morning. Does anyone else feel the same way?
August 22, 200917 yr So FSC and EPSN both will be bringing EPL matches? I have access to ESPN and ESPN2 but not FSC except via Justin-TV. How many EPL matches a weekend will ESPN have on? My guess (or should I say my hope) is that one day the EPL gets smart and opens the flood gates and allows a team to form/transfers to the USA. The money that would open up to the EPL via advertising from the USA would make the NFL look small. I am sure the players would love it, as the more money that comes into the league means more money to the players!
August 22, 200917 yr Author GCHS, absolutely. I especially love when September hits and football season starts. Then there's live sports on, whether soccer or football, from 8 a.m. to after midnight Saturday and Sunday until December.
August 22, 200917 yr Author So FSC and EPSN both will be bringing EPL matches? I have access to ESPN and ESPN2 but not FSC except via Justin-TV. How many EPL matches a weekend will ESPN have on? My understanding is that ESPN has the rights to one Saturday game and then a Monday afternoon game every couple weeks. This Monday, Liverpool and Aston Villa will be on at 3 p.m. With games in the early hours of the morning and the middle of weekday afternoons, I've found a DVR to be absolutely indispensible for really getting into the league. The following blog entry has every Premiership game shown in the U.S. through the end of November. Aug. to Nov. EPL Schedule
August 22, 200917 yr Author Jozy Altidore... wow. Came in as a substitution in the 60th minute and created the assist ON HIS VERY FIRST TOUCH. That guy is awesome. Hull won 1-0.
August 23, 200917 yr Watching the Fulham vs. Chelsea match and Dempsey just missed in the first minute to score. It was a very good effort!
August 23, 200917 yr Fulham 0 vs. Chelsea 1 almost at half, and it proves even in the EPL the "Refs" blow calls. Chelsea had a man clearly offside but the man with the flag in his hand didn't raise it. Don't believe me? See the replay, clearly offside!
August 23, 200917 yr Author ^ Only caught the second half of that one. Great second half, but Fulham were clearly overwhelmed. Watching West Ham - Tottenham right now. This one's shaping up to be great. Setanta On Demand was well worth the 15 bucks a month for matches like this.

I was actually logging on to report this. I had the game DVR'd and just watched it. He came in for 28 seconds and lobbed a beautiful pass into the box for a game-winning assist. Kind of makes you wonder why the U.S. coach is hesitant to play him

I watched this game this morning and I was pretty disappointed. The guy was clearly offsides.
August 23, 200917 yr I'm watching FC Barcelona vs. Athletic Bilbao right now in the Spanish Super Cup. Awesome game so far...
August 24, 200917 yr Author Watched Aston Villa at Liverpool today. Big win for the Villans. Liverpool only lost twice all last season and have lost two of their first three so far this year. The Reds lost two key players to the Real Madrid shopping spree during the offseason and I think they're still recovering. It's going to be an interesting season.

Even bigger is the fact that they lost 3 out of 4 fullbacks. Johnson is a step up to Dosena in pushing pace, but they lost Agger (for at least six weeks) and Skrtel. They are starting a 17 year-old at Centerback w/ Carragher. That's not good in the EPL.
