cch5432 Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 Dusty keeps Homer in too long. Should have pulled him right after the 2-run double. Big surprise. FWIW, here is Tim Lincecum's stats per average start: vs. Cincinnati Reds: 0.0 Wins, 6.5 IP, 6.0 H, 0.5 HR, 4.5 K, 2 BB, 4.85 ERA vs. Everyone Else: 0.5 Wins, 7.2 IP, 5.5 H, 0.2 HR, 8.6 K, 1.8 BB, 2.18 ERA Looks like the way to beat Lincecum is to not strike out (if that wasn't already obvious)
NashMVP Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 stubbs finally called up. Will start in center tonight. Willie pop up Taveras to the DL. Hopefully they will DFA him as soon as he is eligible to return.
sportsnut859 Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Anyone know why Votto left the game tonight? They say blurred vision.:idunno:
AverageJoesGym Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 I'm watching the Red Sox/Blue Jays game right now and Roenicke is pitching in relief of Halladay. He's throwing about 95-96 on each fastball and breaking off a very impressive 12-6 80 mph breaking ball. Just what was Jocketty thinking including him in the Rolen trade? Its been said over and over that you don't trade guys that throw 95 plus. Walt also bid against, well nobody, to sign Taveras for not just one but two years. Are you Reds fans sure that you have the right man as a GM. When he was signed he was talked about in such glowing terms that you would have thought he was the second coming. I'm starting to wonder if he's even competent as a small market GM.

sportsnut859 Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 A GM must have time to work their magic. IMO thats atleast 3 years. Give him time to put his true product on the field before we can him and starts the 3 years over again.

If he continues to trade away arms like Roenicke's for aging, injury-prone former all-stars then its going to take much longer than 3 years. Roenicke is working on his 3rd shutout inning after the Sox raked Halladay for 5 runs.
AverageJoesGym Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Roenicke ended up throwing 3 hitless innings tonight with nasty stuff. The Sox really didn't even have a good swing against him. He'd look pretty good in the Cincy bullpen, but then I guess Rolen looks pretty good sitting in the dugout so its a wash.

AverageJoesGym Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 It's all part of the master plan. We'll see where he sits in a couple years. What is he trying to follow Rachel Phelps' master plan where they finish dead last, lose attendance and move the team to, say Las Vegas. If that's the plan he's well on his way. He's basically already traded for Roger Dorn.:lol:
ColonelCrazy Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 He's been here long enough to give out some terrible contracts and make a terrible trade. What horrible contracts has Walt made? Taveras wasn't a horrible signing. It didn't work out nearly as well as anyone had hoped, but it's not like $4 million is going to limit the team's payroll. Maybe we could've gotten him for $2 or $3 mill, but who knows? Corey Patterson is the one that comes to my mind immediately, but I think that was more Dusty than Walt... Jerry Hairston's worked out perfectly. I think Walt's time in Cincinnati will be more defined by his ability to keep the core of players that are here now. Particularly Joey Vottp, Jay Bruce, Brandon Phillips & Homer Bailey.
