August 20, 200917 yr We have 8 pets. All of them are rescues but 1, and that is only because he was foaled from one of our rescues. I don't think they should be a deduction or credit. They are mine by choice.

I think instead of tax credits there should be across the board reductions in taxes...but like I said earlier I'm always in favor of less money in the government's hands.

True that they are a choice, but the logic behind tax credits for children is that they represent future tax revenue....then again, since half the country doesn't pay (income) taxes, perhaps this is a bad credit :lol:

August 20, 200917 yr We as a country do not have enough money in the till now to pay what we are spending. This tax credit will lessen the amount of money coming in even more. By extension, that means we all pay for people to have pets. That's ridiculous! I'm absolutely against this. Owning a pet is a privilege, not a right. If you wish to own a pet, it's your risk and responsibility to care for it. Not mine and not the government's. If you can't afford it, don't own one. Agreed. The disgusting puppy mills will go into over time production with people buying dogs, abusing them and fraudulently claiming the tax credit. We'll end up paying increased taxes to fund pet cruelty prevention services. Dumb idea with bad consequences not being considered.

Another good example of the Republican party losing their fiscal minds over the past 9 years and the reason they are out of power now and deservingly so. I blame them for this financial mess that the liberal Democrats are getting us into because the Republicans let a little power go to their head and spent like they were a liberal Democrat. We all knew the liberal Democrats (I keep saying liberal because not all Democrats are like that) would spend like this and why they needed to be kept out of running things. But the Republicans surprised us and needed to get a wake up call by being voted out of power. Hopefully, they have learned their lesson and in 2010 so financial sensibility can be put back into place. I fear that 1) they have learned and b) the Dems will stay in power.
